Love the Evolution of Photography image! As an ex-film shooter, I still have a hard time exposing more than 40-50 images with my digital camera after a day in the field. My younger shooting compadres have at least a couple of hundred and wonder what the hell I'm doing. Certainly they'll be spending more time doing post-shoot editing than I will !
I will just say this. Some of my favorite photos were taken with digital cameras at (35 mm equivalent) focal lengths ranging from 400 mm to 1200 mm, hand held. I don't think I could ever have afforded to buy the equivalent lens and body for roll film, I certainly couldn't hand hold them and I wouldn't want to carry them any distance.
I couldn't agree more. A long telephoto for medium format is unthinkable, and for 35mm a major, major expense and size if good.
And I too like them. I like the flattened perspective and unusual compositions. When I use a zoom which goes long, I use the long end a lot, and not for wildlife or such, but just for the compositions.

lucky you.
I have trouble enough editing a couple hundred images. I don't envy those who take a couple thousand in a day.
