Quotes of the peak
I like coincidences. They make me wonder about destiny, and whether free will is an illusion or just a matter of perspective. They let me speculate on the idea of some master plan that, from time to time, we're allowed to see out of the corner of our eye.

Chuck Palahniuk's wrong, of course.
Unless you include consideration of reincarnation (which I do believe in), then I think he's right. And I think that Death, while not "true" in a metaphysical sense, is something we need to face if we are to see what life in this world is about.
I hate being wrong, so I believe we do have free will.
If, in fact, we do have it, then I'm right. If we don't, then it's not as if I could have believed otherwise, is it?
That's hard to argue with.
No one can really give free will anyway, so of course we have it.
I didn't get your point at the end of the posting.
Drinking so much that one gets sick is sometimes equated with "having a great time". (Related to the Moyes quote.)

The one compelling argument in favor of reincarnation is that everything in the natural universe is recycled, from leaves and grass to star systems and even galaxies. That deserves some careful thought. Is there a message there? It would certainly seem so.
Except that reincarnation requires the existence of a soul. It's not enough to say that all materials are recycled (they're really not; eventually it will all end up as a cosmic landfill with the Big Chill). So far no one has even come close to proving the existence of the soul.
