Marilyn twists a classic:
Man, that's some nightmare imagery. But that pretty much goes with his territory, I guess.
(And what a big pig!)
Funny, I notice how nobody manages to sing "made of this" so it does not sound like "made of these".
Marilyn wanted to be a rock star, but he's not handsome and manly, more of an ugly, nerdy-looking little fucker, so wisely he went the opposite way: making himself look as androgenic and ugly as possible. It worked for him.
And different: Eurythmics' original version:
I dunno, I think I prefer Marilyn's version. The Eurythmics' one is very "poppy", especially considering the very dark lyrics.
And a drum/bass/chipmunks remix for real fans:

I think you need to widen the main column of your page layout. It seems the 480 px wide YouTube window doesn't fit.
I know, but the code is a bit beyond me, I'm not sure how to do it without messing it up.

I prefer the Eurythmics version. I think the pop tone with the dark lyrics is sorta the point. (Taco's "Putting on the Ritz" does something similar, but in the opposite direction.)
Plus, Annie Lennox has a great voice. I recommend her solo album, "Medusa." It's not edgy or anything, but it's goooood.
Lol, I remember seeing the Marilyn video when I was thirteen or something. I was like, "What the fuck, mate?" I'm not his biggest fan, but I think there's a reason behind what he does. I think he uses all the theatrics to make people confront their hangups. That's what I've gathered from interviews anyway.
I've actually read that Bowie is his biggest influence. Probably Ziggy Stardust-era Bowie.
Fair point, Mike.
I don't see how Taco's "Putting on the Ritz" is opposite. At least the version I found here seems pretty poppy.
Well, I've just looked at the old Eurythmics album Revenge on iTunes, and it was pleasant and nostalgic, so I bought it.
This MTV video is how I remember Puttin' on the Ritz. (Wish the video quality was better.)
Perhaps I'm projecting the message of the video onto the song, but to me it seems to be a song about joylessly going through the motions of partying, while homeless people freeze on the streets. The rich people partying reminded me of the party scenes in "The Shining." I had a sense of decadence, death and decay running through the song.
Maybe it's just me. I feel roughly the same way about "Happy Birthday."

I'm not sure it's necessary to be either manly or good looking to be a rocker. AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson isn't particularly handsome. Slash of GNR is kind of fugly. Btw, is it just me or does Brian Johnson make you think of Andy Capp?
Eolake, I think I've figured out how to make the post column wider. I've sent email to your gmail account.
