In this internet age there seems to be a rapid expansion of improbable and difficult-for-difficult's-sake art media. Like etch-a-sketch and now dust on cars.
I'm not sure what to think of it. Does something become more Art because it's difficult to do or especially impermanent?

Ephemeral art is not a new idea. It has, for one, deep roots in Zen. Think about those monk who spend countless hours realizing mandala paintings out of colored sand. Or other sand art, for that matter.

Maybe it's just that I'm exposed to it more now via the web.
In dance, the movements when the dancer nearly loses balance are grabbing the attention. It can be breathtaking when something beautiful or good is imminently going to disappear. I guess this quality does not turn any piece of work instantly into art, but it is a powerful element.
Question : Taking pictures of a dust-work is a little like cheating, isn`t it? Then it isn`t a dust-work any more, but a picture, and that`s not ephemeral... :-)

Haha, yes I see what you mean.
I guess one could argue that one has then created either a record of the art work, or a new work of art based on it.
