New Fujifilm camera.
A few years ago I'd hardly have imagined we'd have a ten-megapixel camera with image stabilization and a 15x wideangle zoom for $300. My first camera cost about that, was a basic one, and then we haven't even taken 30 years of inflation into account!

Amazing indeed. I'm getting one as soon it hits the retail centers. Looks to be a fine machine with all of it's high level features. And money wise - it's fantastic. I too paid a fortune for my first camera - a Praktica SuperTL with a 50mm lens. I think it was $500 back then. It also had a never-ready case, which I threw away later. A case around a camera is for the occasional shooter, not a photographer.
I think the superzoom cameras have a slight weakness in that the sensor is pretty small, so they have not yet been very good at high ISO settings.
That said, they are still really good value for money.
Sorry, I had a case on my old 35mm camera, and it was perfect, one snap and it was open ready to go. Of course there was no lens cap so it was a great benefit. I liked that camera, nice quiet shutter, simple, and not too much offset between viewfinder and lens. If it were a TLR it would have been perfect.
AND NO BATTERIES REQUIRED!
