"Family Values Groups Call for More Obscenity Prosecutions
NEW YORK, N.Y. - Social conservatives were pleased with last week's indictment of John Stagliano on obscenity charges, but pushed for prosecution of "mainstream" pornography.
"Early indications lead us to believe this material is once again the 'worst of the worst,'" said Daniel Weiss, the senior analyst for media and sexuality at Focus on the Family. "The Justice Department does nothing to stop the mainstreaming of pornography by only prosecuting material at the extreme edge of society."
Robert Peters, president of Morality in Media, concurred with Weiss and called on the government to initiate far more obscenity prosecutions. Peters asserted that, despite the proliferation of pornography in American society and the "mainstreaming" of adult content, Americans are not accepting of pornography.
"Just because there's a lot of pornography around doesn't mean the American people accept it," Peters said."
I love that. I also think that just because you can buy ice cream everywhere, does not mean that the public accepts ice cream.

What a nebutron! He implies there needs to be more than merely the prosecuting of "material at the extreme edge of society." And yet his own definition of what constitutes a good or bad image is based entirely on society: social values, community standards. He's saying in one breath that he wants porn prosecuted even if it isn't on the extreme edge of society; and in another breath that his definition of porn is, anything which is on the extreme edge of society.
Have cake. Eat. Too. Harrumph.

These people are SO right! I don't like beer at all, and it's available everywhere. It should be banned by the Government because I find it tastes bitter and revolting. They should also ban eggplants, brocoli, cauliflower, liver, Schweppes, and political TV campaign clips.
Oh, and of course bigot propaganda. This I find supremely obscene. I heard this two days ago on TV news, following the Pope's visit to the US. Do you know how many US catholic priests were involved in pedophilia affairs, official numbers? 10%! One friggin' tenth is a predator!!! Waaaaay more than in the average population that views "mainstream porn" all the time.
I rest my case. (In peace?...)
By Indra, it would be safer to take a stroll in the ghetto than to go to church! "Zero tolerance", said Ben16? And before him, John-Paul Square? (tapping foot) I'm still waiting...
I think these Popes were all so goddamn busy being Catholic, on the way they forgot to be Christians. ):-P
Thank you! Somebody else who doesn't like beer! I thought I was alone.
I'm not that crazy about it either. I generally do not drink alcohol of any kind, only because I don't like the taste and not for any religious reasons.
There may be a lot more of us than we thought.
Me neither. Beer is lame. Porn, on the other hand ...
