Yellow Car

I am so bored with blue and grey cars that I was delighted to see this wonderful golden one.
(I also like the greenish car in the background, though I suspect the owner is not as enthusiastic about it.)

This is Jade cleaning my TV. I just found it funny, the ridiculous discrepancy in size.

When Jade grows up you need to upgrade to a Samsung 820DXn.

I thought that was an old Cortina. Very distinctive taillights. Strange how the Cortina evolved over the years. Now I want to see the Sweeney again.

The yellow car looks like a Honda Fit, but it also looks like the small VW that replaced the Polo.

I never understood the attraction of that "optic" yellow. Lots of sports cars here in the US -- bling bling style -- are done up with that yellow color, even with electric-black reflective trim.

I don't get it. If I get a really fast car and want everyone to notice me in the throes of my mid-life crisis, the last thing I'm going to do is have it painted the color of a school bus.

I love seeing your pictures. :)

What a nice car, however, back in Malaysia, yellow cars are growing up in demand, and most Malaysians love it.

Jade looks very cute and adorable. Looks like a cute and responsible gilr when she is wiping u the television. By the way, is Jade from your neighbourhood, if not how does it relate it to you? Please tell me.

Sorry, it is 'she' instead of 'it'.

F.I.: maybe the photo can't reproduce it. The color is not school bus yellow, it has a rich golden hue.

Hannah, thank you. I am glad to hear it.

Jade is the daughter of a friend. I took her to the playground and we all went on the swings, her, me, and Lum-lum, her fuzzy bear. She's a very pleasant little person.

Wow, that sounds so cute, reminds me of my 6 year old sister ding the same. The way she is cleaning the television also reminds of my little sister now.

By the way where is the place where is your house where you have taken these photographs?

One of the three or four stock colours for a Ferrari is yellow.

At first I did not think this was school bus yellow. School busses are more orange than this hatchback. However now I look at it more carefully, and with different screens, it is more golden, and does have that colour more oft associated with educational transportation. The shocking yellow has found its way onto hot hatches and SUV's here (FJ Cruisers and Nissan Terrano's in particular).

Ford used to have this colour in it's line up of Trannies and D series, it was called "Cargo Yellow", and a great many council vans and corpy trucks were that colour.

Over here the dominant colour is mettalic grey, be it platinum, chanmpagne, or one of a dozen nuances, the all resolve themselves as sun-drenched pavement at noon, and concrete grey at dawn and dusk, the number of these anonymous cars I've not seen moving against a row of same coloured cars is incredible. If only they had daylight running lights...

Me, I finally got my red hatch back. I can easily find it in the parking lot (erm car park)

Oh, I've seen that "rich" yellow before. Hummers and Hummer3s and Mustangs regularly come in that slightly-orange-ish rich yellow. It's not the color of a school bus, exactly (though they're starting to paint busses and fire engines that color now), but it sure recalls one to MY mind.

If I could afford a fancy car, it would be shiny and black and without chrome. Like a lozenge of polished space flotsam.

The other day I sat by the road watching traffic and wondering the same thing -- "Why are all the cars so drab?" It's like everyone picks their color to blend in with an overcast day or something.

Eolake Stobblehouse said...

Exactly my feelings.

I had a friend who designed the most amazing furniture, and everybody loved it, but nobody ever bought any except the boring stuff. (Except me and one or two others.)

Here in Germany almost all cars are black, apart from a number of silvers. It seems to be the mainstream. I love colourful cars. My present car is a golden Opel Corsa, my previous one was red. I still am not fed up with the colour, after 4 years of owning the car.
And oh yes, I'm a guy, I'm a macho, I've got everything that you'd expect from a man. Or have I?
I wear pink tank tops, I wear ankle
bracelets, and a cotton shoulder bag (marine blue).
I love life.

I used to pass a yellow Vauxhall Nova (sibling to the Corsa) every day on my way home from work. They girl who drove it was, well, piqued my curiosity. Trouble is she got off the motorway 15 miles before I did. Short of crashing into her...

The Corsa is a fun car, all the agility you need for town, reasonable capacity and good fun. I prefer the Astra though. Strange thing, my first full time car in America was Pontiac LeMans, which was the Korean build of the MkII Astra/Kadette with Pontiac badges.

Miss Jade said: "And now, class, we're going to study the theory of ADDITIVE colours. Red, navy, and green. Please take careful notes, there'll be a test tomorrow."

Speaking of school, Final, yellow is perhaps one of the very few colors you WON'T see on a school bus in Lebanon. So I for one wouldn't mind a yolk-colored classy car. I read somewhere that they're the least likely to get stolen. The most often stolen color is black cars, and those most likely to get you a speeding ticket are the red ones. Chromatic psychology is quite the interesting topic.

One thing's for sure: colors are very important in creating a pleasant and uplifting environment. Which is why the grey concrete of cities, especially the underprivileged bland zones, is so depressing. And now they have cars adding to it? Sheesh! :-P

BTW, operating rooms, uniforms and covers are blue or green because these colors are the least distiguished by insects who therefore won't enter what they see as a dark place. Add to this an ultraviolet zapping lamp at every sas door, and you can feel rather safe about air borne germ contamination in your carefully filtered sterile atmosphere.
Unless somebody farts.

Okay, so maybe, just maybe, you're metrosexual. That doesn't make you gay.
Or, you could just be, not macho, but simply manly enough to be fully confident.
Not that I have anything against a gay macho, but you'll have to admit, it WOULD sound like something weird to imagine. ;-)

Well, it would require a lot of skill to get her number that way without getting her lawyer's instead. It's not easy "innocently" aiming for just a small dent...

You mean if Hugh Grant were to bump into Sandra Bullock at a traffic light, then the remaining 70 minutes would be her agonizing over leaving her abusive, slob of a boyfriend, and Hugh Grant would spend his time trying to buy her flowers, only to find every flower shop girl in town was giving him their number.

But if I bumped into Miss Nova I'd be faced with an insurance claim against me and a restraining order. I think I want to move to Britcom, its a better place for a guy.

Pascal, in my area you can't even give away a yellow car. They are considered "fruity" or girlish, stick out like a sore thump. The Germans have it right.
Black cars, SUV's, vettes, ALL sell EXTREMELY WELL HERE.
And yellow vehicles are considered mini-school buses here. It's a salesman nightmare here.

The Lambourgini Diablo only comes/came in yellow.

Not really, how about the "leather daddy" look. Admittedly it's an odd sort of macho, but it's definitely not feminine.

Anonymous said...

I agree. How can you become any more macho than the men pictured in the homoerotic drawings of Tom of Finland (who, as I understand it, invented the "leather daddy" look).

I'm sure even many heteros would secretly want to look like the characters in his drawings.

I think it's because I grew up without motherly element, which has made me prone up to the present day to some kind of female substitute deep within myself; I'm in my middle fifties, tall and slender and look younger.
I prefer colours to typically male-ish grey, brown, black etc because I like colours. As Pascal insinuated, grey isn't any good for the mood.
And he's absolutely correct when he says: Okay, so maybe, just maybe, you're metrosexual. That doesn't make you gay.
Or, you could just be...simply manly enough to be fully confident.

I much prefer to be and am very happy in the vicinity of women, feel uneasy when touched by my (tender long) arms by some of my male friends who sometimes do so when seeing me in my light summer clothes, whereas when my lady friends do the same, I enjoy it :-)))
And yes, the "macho" part in my comment was indeed ironic.

Eolake Stobblehouse said...

Good for you.

I'd like to wear more colors, but good clothes are scarce in this neighborhood, shirts are typically the most uninspiring office-wear imaginable.

Alex said...

I noticed in some recent British shows how drab and moody the office wear is. seems like black is the new black.

Back in the 80's, for a brief period, pastels, pink grey and yellow were legitimized by Don Johnson and Miami Vice. I think it was the last vestiges of the UK New Romantic look.

When in Britain last I noticed how fashion sseemed to have stood still for everyone, it looked like it did in 94, apart from Hoodies there was nothing new, and hoodies seemed a resurgence of shell suits, nothing more.

Besides, the NW is only colourful in its writings and its sky, not in the buildings or the clothes.

Eolake Stobblehouse said...

Oh, I dream of finding black shirts. Most they have are white with small blue checkers... ew.

Safeway changed their uniform here about a year ago. There was something about the brownshirt that reminded me of 1930's Germany. I'm surprised a grocery store would want to project that image.

Alex, UPS Mail dress in brown. (Darker brown) It's quite common and they are highly respected. I guess I don't see the connection you made with the colors? Are there Safeway stores in Germany? I don't know?
Actually around my area brown is extremely common and accepted as where (the color black) (the absense of color to some?) is worn by heavyset people or by teenagers and bikers. And also people attending funerals.
I personally like the color black. Some look good in it. But not everybody is Johnny Cash.

Alex said...

You know, there is a great deal of difference between the open collared short sleeve dark brown shirts worn by UPS crews and the lighter brown with tie long sleeve shirt worn at Safeway CA. The overall image was strikingly like a Hitler youth uniform.

There was something about the overall look, not just the brown shirt. The uniform as a whole conjured the image. It was a surprise, and I was surprised I made the connection.

In general I have nothing agains black or brown in a persons wardrobe (and before we get the sassy comments, yes they can wear it in public too).

I think black looks good on muscle cars. I saw a black Mercury Marauder the other day, probably last of the old school.

Thanks for the tip, Terry!
Now, if I want to buy a yellow car at the best possible price, I'll just pay you a visit. :-)

Orange is becoming very trendy in Lebanon these days. It's for political reasons (like in Ukraine a while back), but it does bring a flashy touch of life to the world.

"There was something about the brownshirt that reminded me of 1930's Germany. I'm surprised a grocery store would want to project that image."

Here's a challenge for you: find a color that's never been a political symbol of some sort. The symbol of the Lebanese Opposition goes at it boldly: they've chosen the rainbow!!!

Good one. :-D
Just remember: not everybody is comedian Sinbad, either... ;-)

"I think black looks good on muscle cars."

Naah! A true muscle car should be muscle-colored: striated bright red, with white bumpers to remind of the tendons. The bone color will be provided by the reckless driver when he crashes. (A little sardonic humour for a change. I've been reading MAD magazine...)
