New poetry collection

The Painful Poignancy of Desire: An Introduction to Romantic and Postromantic Poetry
by Claudia Moscovici

I have long been a friend of Claudia's and a supporter of her postromaticism movement. A couple of years ago, I published a few of her wonderful poems, get them here in PDF format.

Noted feminist scholar Claudia Moscovici is a professor at the University of Michigan, and has published several books on feminist theory and women's sensuality, including Erotisms and From Sex Objects to Sexual Subjects.

I am very interested in looking up her work. Thank you.

I attended Smith College, all women, in the 80's. The seeds of femininsm were born in me then. Only then I thought all feminists disdained men. I made it black and white. So much has emerged since then.

Don't they?

Not at all. It's a minority, but a very loud one.

You know, Laurie, it's not ALL black and white.
I love it that there are lots of other colors too! ;-)
I hope this post is considered allright.
Eolake, are these rhymes okay with you? ;-)

Dawn,
It's always that way. If you relied only on the loud minority, you'd get to think that all muslims are bloodthirsty terrorists. While in reality most of them simply dislike "America" far more since Bush confirmed the propaganda that permanently targets them, that's all.

As a general rule, the silent majority needs our intelligent and committed support, to achieve the common goal: defeating ignorant hatred. The enemy is not a category of people, only the ideas that might be spreading in some categories. The people are always our sisters and brothers.
(Granted, "Brother Osama" seems pretty much hopeless...)

Agreed Pascal. Bush has targeted them........no wonder the hatred has grown. Sigh.

He could change........but then maybe no? Bush had Saddam murdered but the real enemy still remains bin laden and where is he? That's one trophy he'll never see hanging on his wall.
Ain't gonna happen. Besides, everybody knows that Bush only wanted the oil and revenge agaisn't saddam because of his daddy and of course the texas tea.

"Osama could change"

Well, in theory, he CAN. Like everybody. I'm just pretty certain he won't: he's way too deep and stubborn into his fanatism. I've read testimonies on the man; I bet he wouldn't change his deep attitude if his life immediately depended on it.
The same probably goes for Dubya...

Which is a very common phenomenon, as I've noticed from experience. Remember the trial of Zacarias Moussaoui? He deliberately did his "best" to get the death penalty and become "a martyr at the hands of the infidels". For that alone, I'm glad they had the wisdom of sentencing him to life prison instead! He didn't deserve that sick "pleasure".

P.S.: Some very disillusioned people around me believe that Osama has actually been sent to a golden retirement by his friends of the CIA, on some tropical beach, as a reward for his services in supporting Bush's goals. "He's probably sipping cocktails in Florida or Bush's ranch right now".

I don't believe so myself, but for a conspiracy theory it's pretty plausible. :-(

Hmmmmmmmm, I always wondered if those kind of places were healthy or not? (Mindfully speaking)
Maybe. Perhaps?

So true. Besides, it was the vast amount of Saudi's who committed the crimes, no one from Saddam's arena.
Yet Duh-ya attacked Iraq? That really made sense to the world. Not.
Bin Laden is still free sipping on the blood of those that he ordered slain.
Of course Duh-ya could have stormed Saudi Arabia but you don't bite that hand that feeds you!

Saddam ended up being a martyr as well. But........the bloodshed continues.

That just described Bush: Stupidity knows no limits.

"As well" is incorrect. Moussawi is serving a life sentence. Not very martyr-like. Serves him right!

Saddam didn't wish to become a "martyr" himself, BTW. The stupidity of those who took the decision will clearly favorize even more needless bloodshed, however. Answering barbary with barbary will often have that "stimulating feedback loop" effect...

Will you quit complimenting the guy, already? ;-)

eolake, what is "postromanticism" ? I read the Romantics way back when.

I have pleaded with Claudia to call it "neo-romanticism" instead. Because "post-romanticism" implies a negation of romanticism, and this is the opposite, it is the revival of romanticism.

Romanticism |rōˈmantəˌsizəm; rə-| noun 1 (often Romanticism) a movement in the arts and literature that originated in the late 18th century, emphasizing inspiration, subjectivity, and the primacy of the individual.

Aah, the unparalleled romantic style of a dictionary!
