Gorgeous! Difficult to pick out a favorite when so MANY of them are so gorgeous!
Sure would have been cool to have seen this Austin, in 'Driving Miss Daisy,' instead of that boring old Hudson! :-P Such a classy car, this Austin! LOVE the colors, as well! :-D
Hm..."steam up," Alex. Are you talking trains, now, as in the 'Skunk Train,' up @ Fort Bragg? That was always a LOT of FUN! :-P
I love vintage car shows. The Duesenberg prototype is just drop dead gorgeous.
We had a show of vintage cars exhibited at our museum called The Allure of the Automobile and it was well worth the price of admission. I think there's no question that automobile design can be considered a form of art.
I've been to a car museum but that's about it! What I saw, there, sure wasn't a delightful as these are! :-/

I agree! Quite the looker!

Lovely pictures, Russ! Funny: while I was looking @ the link Eo posted, I kept wondering why I hadn't thought to shoot vehicles, yet! Yet another thing to add to my 'Bucket List!' :-D
The paint jobs and colors on a couple of the cars that you shot are just amazing and so exquisite! You did a superb job of shooting them, as well! Did you use a stand? Loved your flower shots, as well! And...it looks like there's a fountain that I have to go and look for, up there, soon! :-D

Oh, yeah! Completely agree w/you! When you see what's rolling around, out there, these days, very few compare to these beautiful masterpieces that they used to create! I hope it's not a lost art form; it would just leave photographers w/one less thing to enjoy shooting! :-(
Thanks for sharing your pics, Russ. Looks fun! :-) Is that an annual event?
@TC, no in the UK we have enough old steam traction engines that have been restored that they have meet ups.
It typically involves an old country estate, about 30 traction engines, steam wagons and steam rollers (all road going), and an assortment of old portable steam engines.
To get more punters they sometimes couple up with a vintage car rally too, so you can see lots of old stuff all in one place.
I have a new friend who is in to steam, and I'd love to take her to one of these meets, but they are all in the UK as far as I can tell. The only steam traction engine around here is at Ardenwood Farm.
There are a couple of other great engines here too, the old steam ferry in SF where they filmed Nash Bridges, and then that old steam fire engine in the museum in Oakland. But neither of those run.

You're makin' me homesick! Ardenwood used to be my "pretend" home! lol! Practically lived over there! :-(

Never watched that. Have always loved Cheech...especially in 'Up In Smoke!' HILARIOUS! :-)
...and then that old steam fire engine in the museum in Oakland. But neither of those run.
And...for a FUN ride, as mentioned, before, you've got 'The Skunk Train' (a FUN day trip! :-) to the north; and...I just found this page that mentions a few more. I've not done the Felton/Santa Cruz one but that seems FUN! :-) Never got a chance to do the Niles Canyon one, neither. :-( Perhaps, someday...
Oh, FUNNY! I did not know that that was the one and the same! Too bad I didn't realize that, back then! That is the "Project" that a friend of a friend "works" on, as a hobby! Gosh, that's in immaculate shape, ain't it?! Gorgeous! Great shots, too, BTW! Funny how they used EXACTLY the SAME color paint as Ardenwood painted their train station! When I first looked @ your pics, it looked like the entryway to Ardenwood! Funny!
I got mawwied, right behind that train stop! (I thought it was such a CUTE and quaint little church, when we stumbled upon it, out looking for the winery tucked away yet further behind that, that had been recommended to us! "SCREECH! Hey; what's this?!" :-)
Would have been fun to have taken the wedding party over to 'The Pleasanton Hotel,' (Too funny: I thought that they had torn down the building and replaced it w/a new fancy one but came to discover that there have been at least (2) different restaurants in this facility, since 16 years ago! Read, on the bottom of the picture, that it used to be a brothel, too! Oh MY the history of that building! ROFLMAO! We had the reception in 'The Victorian Room!' :-) on that line, instead of using a boring old limo! lol!
You SHOULD go take a ride on 'The Skunk Train!!' Holy crap are they ever TIGHT w/the Steamer! There is ONLY ONE Photographer's Special day and that's not until SUNDAY, June 10th! I'd splurge for that, if I were down there! It's the only one in the entire summer season! How ridic! That would be a blast, though! We, unknowingly, went on a diesel/motorcar combo and that motorcar, unless you enjoy riding a really old, rinky-dink, funky old thing, was a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT even though I'm trying to remember if we ever did figure out and catch the actual Steam train! The first time we went, we had that shitty combo, just mentioned; then, the second time, I guess we might have gone on the diesel only. It wasn't as much fun: diapers; nursing, during halfway point! SCREAMING kid, ALL the way back! :-/ lol! Ugh! Memories!
For me, vintage car shows are always a great avenue to review history backwards. These old cars just carry a sense of history, and they truly hold such wonderful tales that are forever carved in them. Oh, how I miss going to such car shows!
Vintage car shows are nice, but a steam up is a better thing to go to.

@TC, The Allure of the Automobile was a traveling exhibit. Portland just happened to be one of the stops on the tour.
ReplyDeleteUh. Interesting. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAMAZING shot, BTW, Russ!

ReplyDeleteThis may be one that belongs to the GGRM.
I still have not done the Skunk Train, but of course have gone to Sacramento several times for trains.
