    -- Henri Bergson

I might understand this. As a man of inaction, I have a tendency to think for a long time, reaching no conclusion, then going back to the beginning and thinking everything over again.

I'm guessing Bergson means "think to a conclusion, but don't come to a conclusion before you think."

  2. I think it's more along the lines of thinking efficiently and acting thoughtfully. A man of action has no time for extraneous thoughts. If he's preparing for work he's not thinking about what he's going to have for dinner. In combining efficient thought with patience you're able to create detailed plans for what you should do step by step and complete your task with minimal setbacks.

Think, but think quickly; be sure in your steps.

    Yes, that would make sense.

Of course, the hitch is that to my mind, much of the most important thinking is not related to any action at all, which leaves the action man's mind in the cold.

  4. A man of action isn't necessarily someone with a physical job but just someone who gets the job done...they could be a scientist or a writer...

It means to be decisive, but not rash. In other words, don't dither. Make a decision. Then carry that decision out thoughtfully.
