Breaded ham and Dutch Edam cheese. (It's about the only yellow cheese I can find in this country, which shocked me a little, since in DK, yellow cheeses are abundant and varied.)
Earthenware by Denby, a lovely brand with understated design.

Can you explain "breaded ham" to the American?

It's when you cover a ham with bread crumbs.
The main thing for me is that the products which are called 'breaded' are, for some reason, higher quality. Instead of small and thin, greasy slices which look processed, I get big, thick slices obviously cut from a real ham.
Cheese isn't actually supposed to be yellow. I found DK to be lacking in the food department, but then I've only been there once. Go to France if you want the greatest variety and best tasting cheese. I mean, they're known for it - that, and surrendering. ;-)
ReplyDeleteDear oh dear, I'll have you know that Belgian cheeses are far underrated, while the French are somewhat overrated.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, even Tesco's sell a bit of a variety of yellow cheeses, usually something along the lines of edam, gouda and couple of swiss pieces of shit.
Witty and erudite as always.
ReplyDeleteAll these food photos!! Its like I'm reading http://fxcuisine.com
ReplyDeleteand it's making me very hungry.
I know what you mean, leviathud. Seeing that sandwitch made me instantly want one. But I don't have any ham. Or lettuce. Or any good cheese (just good ol' fashioned processed "American Cheese" slices - yech!). Mustard's low. Bread's stale. Fuck. Now I've got to go shopping.

Ham is like a slice of some creatures butt!
ReplyDeleteI'll just take the crumbs, please.
