Cry Baby!

And now for something completely different.

This is normally not my type of music. If it's not yours either, at least try the two covers, those are chilling voices. (And Janis, though I was too young and dumb to know her, is dang good too.)

Janis Joplin, Cry Baby, live 1970. (Aged just 27!)

Natalia Sikora:

Melanie Masson, 44, she is inspiring. Through the first minutes of the video, you get no idea of the intensity she can do.

  1. The popular idea that dying at 27 is unusually common for pop musicians is apparently a myth.

Although the sampled musicians faced an increased risk of death in their 20s and 30s, this was not limited to the age of 27.[9] Informal research using an automated query across Wikipedia data (via DBpedia) in 2012 effectively reached the same conclusion: "There may well be a 27 Club of accursed musicians, but the 74 Club is more popular."

  2. It all depends on how you look at it. 27 is the least likely age for a male to die in, and females the lowest is a few years younger but risk at 27 is similar. So if the guy who did the DBpedia analysis had compared the death rates to those from say the UK life tables (not hard to find) there would have been a noticeable peak around 27. There are also some other complications like the fact that some musicians haven't died yet.

  3. Fair enough.
It was also some very prominent names to die in a short period at that age. (And Kobain later.)
