It is an interesting example of how markets change. Apple's original market research would have told them that a tablet had to be smaller than a laptop, but not that much smaller, and do different things than a netbook. Why it couldn't be the same size as a laptop was that it would be seen as similar size less powerful. Now that there is a market just for tablets people will buy the size they prefer.
