Gangnam Style hits one billion views on YouTube

Gangnam Style hits one billion views on YouTube.
First video ever to do that.

I heard about the video on South Park. It seemed to me to be just a perfectly ordinary rap-type music video. It's a bit funny and self-ironic and has some nice girls (I like the faux red-head), but nothing exceptional.  What the heck has made it break all records on Youboobs?

Update: I'm not the only one wondering. Thanks to A for pointing to this explanation, which I like.
I have to admit the thing is growing on me like a fungus. He does have a fearless and consistent sense of humor.

... Anyway, this version (I think it's the same song!...) has more of the girlie:

Update: aha: it's catchy. The kind that drills into your brain and sticks there until you take it out with a hammer or industrial drugs. You've been warned.

Below: Clint Eastwood must be so proud.

Because of how funny the dude looks - a fat little asian dude pretending to be, I don't know, the Korean Slim Thug or something (I picked the most ridiculous rapper I could think of). Then there's that even smaller Korean kid who kind of reminded me of that midget from Fantasy Island - he's even funnier.

  3. Yes, the kid was very good.

And the thing does have nice self-irony. I liked the sequence where Psy and the models where plastered with confetti or what it was.

  4. There are a lot of funny videos, it's impossible to say why this particular one caught the public imagination.

  5. There are a gazillion different tribute versions of this. I like this one from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology):

  7. The Gunman Style is very funny, and the girl in the white bikini is really something.

  8. I have never heard of this MIT, good thing you told us what that was.

I'm going out a limb here, but I'd wager you're not a member of Mensa. (I know, it's not going out on a limb when something is quite that obvious - it would be like gambling on anything where there's a less than 1% chance you won't win.)

  14. I stopped reading when they said how it succeeded on six levels. Only six? I counted nine.

  15. I too should've logged in. I posted the link to the explanation, I did not post any of the other Anon comments.
