ReplyDeleteThis is by far their best song...I find their subsequent efforts to be rather hacky. Lyrically, on the level of a sixth-grader. They got kinda lucky with this particular song, methinks.
Bit of trivia: Fountains of Wayne was a real business in Wayne, NJ where they sold cast concrete fountains, some rather garish. It was famously featured in an episode of The Sopranos. Apparently it has gone out of business.
It's funny how many bands manage to make one really good song, and the rest is filling.

My daughter, now 23, was discussing what cosmetic surgery she and her friends were planning for when they got old enough to not require approval--that was 14 years ago.
Song's o.k. video is cute & the people are good looking--it's a Hollywood dream.
