I want to thank L. M. Montgomery for many, many hours spend enjoying her books, which have humor, thoughtfulness, and warmth rarely found. These are healing for the soul.
The Anne books are justifiably the most popular, but I very much liked the Emily books too (and Storygirl).
Anne of Windy Poplars audiobook by Lucy Maud Montgomery (266 MB). zip file.
The fourth book in the Anne Shirley series.
(Published as Anne of Windy Willows in the UK, Australia , and Japan.)
(Alternatively, a MP3 version, zip file.)
It is presently not available commercially in most countries, and it was not easy to find otherwise, so I decided to compile it into a real audio book, one file with cover and all, and put up the link.
Update:
Hurrah! After half a year's work, my friend Pat in the US managed to find a good copy of the tapes of the last book about Anne!
And he converted them to digital for me. Trust you won't find this better, because he has top-pro equipment, and does this kind of work for The Library of Congress!
(I converted the files to an audiobook with cover.)
Without further ado, the very rare Anne of Ingleside audiobook.
(MP3 version, zip file.)
Thanks for all the pleasant comments, folks!
Not all devices are set up to play audiobook files. I play them in iTunes or on an iPod (get used ones cheap) or iPhone or iPad.
I think iTunes software is still available for free for Windows PCs.
If all fails, notice the alternative download links for the universal MP3 format.
Thanks for posting this! I've been looking all over for this audiobook.
ReplyDeleteMe too!!! Thanx a ton
DeleteMy pleasure. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for this. My daughter will be even more delighted than I already am!
ReplyDeleteEvery year for some time now I've done a Google search and come up empty-handed, so this was a lovely surprise. Thanks again.
Rebecca in Canada
WOW! Holy goodness! "Have you ever heard anything so delicious?" as in the first bloomin' paragraph! The lengthy wait is finally over. Bless you.
ReplyDeleteAh, this is cool. :-)
ReplyDeletethanks so much for posting this. my kids and I have been looking for this!!!! I was hoping to burn it to a disc and listen to it in the car. I'm in the US. is the .m4b format compatable with CD player in the US? I'm having trouble making it work. thanks for any advice!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure.
ReplyDeleteI don't think a CD player can play the compressed formats like .m4b. You can use an iPod with speakers.
Or probably you can find software to burn it to a CD. I think the free iTunes software from Apple will do that for you.
http://apple.com/itunes/download/
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. ^^
ReplyDeleteThanks from me and My daughter.
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure. I love to help others get a thing which I've had pleasure from myself.
ReplyDeletethank you!!!
ReplyDeleteIs this link no longer working? Just found it and would LOVE to have this book on audio but the link doesn't do anything when I click on it.
ReplyDeleteIt works for me. Try the popup menu, right-click on Windows, control-click on Mac.
ReplyDeleteUpdate: I've added a zipped version, that may help for downloads.
ReplyDeleteHello! I am so happy you posted this. I have just recently been introduce to audiobooks. It has opened up a new world to me. I've never enjoyed reading because I am extremely bad at comprehending. Who would've known reading was like watching a movie in your head?! I love it! Do you happen to have Anne of Ingleside, Rainbow Valley and Rilla of Ingleside? I can't find them free anywhere and I can't not finish the series. It would be like stopping half way through a movie and never knowing how it ended. Thanks in advance!
ReplyDeleteI have them, but only in DRM'd (encrypted) form from iTunes.
ReplyDeleteTry finding the money for them, they are very good.
There's a lot of free books on www.booksshouldbefree.com, including most of the Anne books. Can't remember which ones, but I know that of the 8, that website had 5 or so of them.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Didn't know that site. It even has two books (audio too) from Montgomery that I never heard of! Chronicles of Avonlea and a sequel. Short stories.
ReplyDeleteYes, they're fun, although just so you don't get your hopes up, they're only just barely related to Anne-- most of the stories are of other folks in Avonlea you won't have heard of. But anything by LMM is great. :-)
ReplyDelete"they're only just barely related to Anne"
ReplyDeleteYes, but so was Rainbow Valley and Rilla of Ingleside, and yet they were awesome.
But thank you.
Daughter is home sick...what a wonderful find for tomorrow. Thank you from California
ReplyDeleteDaughter home sick...what a wonderful audiobook to find. Quite a treasure. Thanks from California
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this, I have been looking to purchase it for a while and have been unable to find it, so I am most grateful to you. I will continue to purchase all those that I can find, as I would like the series, as they are brilliant books. Karen Shanks
ReplyDeleteThank you.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently listening to The Story Girl, which I only found on audio recently. It's very good, though it has less of a plot to it than the Anne books.
Thanks! This is the only one not on the BooksShouldBeFree website! I'm excited I don't have to skip over it.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for this audiobook. You mention you have "Anne of Ingleside" from iTunes but I cannot find it. I bought them all from iTunes except "Anne of Windy Poplars" and "Anne of Ingleside" because they don't sell them. How did you find the last one?
ReplyDeleteThank you
Ooops, my mistake, I only have "Anne of Ingleside" as ebook, not audio.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bro! This one has been missing from my audio library for years. THanks for not being a Rebecca Don't :-)
ReplyDeleteSo if you can tolerate a computer generated voice, then this link is great, for those that can't handle Cyber Cindy reading to you, this is just one more dead end. Anyone with a digital text copy of this book can make their own.
ReplyDeleteNo, this a human reading. The name of the audiobook publishers is said at the beginning.
ReplyDeleteThe reader's name is given at the end; Phoebe Moyer.
(I have no idea why this isn't on Audible and iTunes, must be one of those silly rights snarls.)
Thank you so much! I've really been wanting to listen to this, and I can't find this for sale in the US.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, I´ve been looking everywhere for this, I have the book but I like to listen to audiobooks while I do my work, and I´m listening the Anne collection and I thought I would have to pass this one over; thank you!!
ReplyDeleteLidia- Spain
My pleasure. That's just how I felt.
ReplyDeleteI suspect this was recorded from Books On Tape. On actual tape. And it seems Anne of Ingleside also exists on tapes, in US libraries, but somebody would have to transfer it.
Thank you for posting this. Now, do you happen to have Anne of Ingleside as well? It would be great if you do. Thanks again
ReplyDeleteNo, that seems to be even harder to find.
ReplyDelete(But I'll post it here if I find it, try looking into this post in a few months.)
Thanks so much for this!
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you! you can imagine how much i appreciate this.I just really don't understand how those two books has just disappear so mysteriously.
ReplyDeleteI think it's because they were written much later than the other books, and are still under copyright, so it will be more expensive to make audiobooks of them. (I think it's free to make books-on-tape for the blind, or at least there's a special deal.)
ReplyDeleteI'm currently having my Kindle Fire HD read aloud Anne of Ingleside for me. It so far doesn't seem to hold my interest much, and I don't remember much from the first time I read it. So it might be the weakest of the series. (I did enjoy Poplars.)
ReplyDeleteIs there any way to download this onto an ipad? Ive been looking e erywhere for this audiobook.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading it both on an iPad and a Kindle Fire.
ReplyDeleteTry opening this page in the ipad. Download via the zip link. After that, you may get (maybe on tab-and-hold) options for which apps to open it in.
Having Dropbox installed may help if trouble.
You can also download on your computer, plug in your iPad, go to the Apps tab in iTunes, find Music (I think), and drag the .m4b file onto it.
... Hmmm, to be honest I'm having trouble myself downloading directly to iPad, it doesn't seem to want to be opened in anything. Maybe the sidleload thing (via computer) is best.
It should also play on an iPod.
... Durnit, I'm not having more luck with sideloading. I was sure this could not be too hard.
ReplyDelete(The Music app does not show up, neither does Audible.)
I have now downloaded two audiobooks apps. And neither of them show up in iTunes for file import!
I'm out.
Time to google around for a solution, Try that. (I may try myself later.)
ReplyDeleteAHA!
I dragged the audio file onto the iPad icon on the left side of iTunes (with the iPad plugged in). You can then see it being copied, at the top.
And after that, I found it in the Music app!
(A bit tricky to find the audiobooks in the Music app, you have to tap at the More button at the bottom. Apple has messed up with some of these media apps recently.) (Also, oddly, when you have the specific audiobook selected, that's not the one which starts playing! Nor does it help to tap the cover icon. You have to tap the *title*!)
Eureka!
Thank You so much!))))
ReplyDeleteGuys, I have managed to get an audiobook version of Anne of Ingleside made! I posted it in the same post as Windy Poplars.
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to find these audio books on your blog. I have just started this series and have been enjoying it tremendously, unfortunately your blog is the ONLY place that I can find these books and I cannot play them through my MP3 player because they are in MP4 format. I am wondering if it is possible for you to change the files to MP3? Thank you for the public service you have done in providing these rare books at all :)
ReplyDeleteThe audiobook format is mp4, I think.
ReplyDeleteAnd it seems I don't have the original files anymore.
I recommend trying to find some conversion software.
Or better, get an iPod. They can be found cheap on eBay in all kinds of sizes and colors.
(Also, do you have the free iTunes software? Free from Apple for both Windows and Mac. It will surely play the audiobook.) (Then maybe combine it with an iPod for portability.)
A bit later: OK, I still recommend what I said, but I found ways of posting them as MP3 too, reload the post.
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure.
WOW! you are amazing to respond so quickly and so favorably. Thank you so much for posting the MP3 versions. I cannot wait to try them :)
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteOMG THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I'm the queen of hunting down audiobooks because I go through 3-5 a week at work. I've scoured libraries, garage sales, antique stores, etc. I've hunted every torrent everywhere. THANKS!!!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure. I knew these were next to impossible to find, that's why I posted them, to help other fans.
ReplyDelete(Which one hadn't you found?)
once i download the file, then what? im obviously not savy at all with a computer, but what program do i open it up with?
ReplyDeleteTry double-clicking the file, you may already have an app.
ReplyDeleteOr download iTunes free from Apple.com.
Thank you... been looking for this for weeks...my wife said she needed closure, as this is the last of the true Anne novels. When wife is happy, we are all happy. ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure.
ReplyDeleteRight you are.
Though I loved Rainbow Valley too, even though Anne barely had a part in it.
"Rilla" is a good book, but a bit depressing because of WWI.
Oh, I was not aware of those. That's great! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate this so much! I first found Anne with my grandmother on the PBS telethon each year. I have dog-eared books, but am so grateful for the audio books!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for these two books. Greatly appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThanks- My Family is really getting into these
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this! This is terrific! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I was able to find the other "Anne" books on Audible.com, but was so disappointed that the complete series was not there. I'm mildly dyslexic, and I wasn't looking forward to having to try to plow through the two missing books in print form (or rather, ebook form). I'm so grateful that now, I won't have to. :-)
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure. I love when a good result of my own searching can help others.
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I can't gain access to the final book "Anne of Ingleside".. Is there any other way we can access it?
Thankyou! It's so wonderful that you've done this! :)
Aha! I got a notice from Dropbox that my Public folder is blocked now because of excessive traffic. And I would guess now that it may be these books which are the culprits! Dang her talent. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'll have to host them someplace else.
I'll have fixed the links within a day, I think.
A few hours later... (they are large to upload, even on broadband) OK, now the links should all work. Tell me if one delivers the wrong file or something... :-)
ReplyDeleteI am so grateful you uploaded these! I am so excited.
ReplyDeletethank you!
ReplyDeletei really appreciate what you've done
many thanks!
Thank you, thank you, thank you
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe it when I found these books this evening. I had given up all hope of ever seeing them. THANK YOU xx xx xx
ReplyDeleteAnswer to many: Thank you for writing. It is very nice to get acknowledgements, so you know that something has happened, and that somebody has had advantage of your action.
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of Montgomery, not the least Anne of GG, and it was very difficult to find those two audiobooks. I knew others would have the same problems, so I decided to help out other fans.
(Don't miss her other books, Emily of New Moon trilogy, The Story Girl, and so on.)
Thank you for making these audiobooks available! I was getting pretty disappointed not finding them on audible, etc.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering, is Anne of Ingleside unabridged?
My pleasure, Erin.
ReplyDeleteI don't think any of them are abridged. They are not huge books.
Thank you so much, I love the Anne books!
ReplyDeleteSibyla, Czech Republic, Europe
Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteI have started listening to the series, having watched the movies several times. So much happier with the books as the story goes on for such a long time with such details!
Love from Carole-Anne in Canada
Oh yes, you get much, much more story with the books.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you get the narrators voice in the book and that is often the best and the funniest parts.
Have you seen the "Anne of Avonlea" TV series though? I liked that too.
You are amazing! Thank you so very much for sharing these files! Blessings to you. XOXOXO
ReplyDeleteI just stumbled across this site. Thank you, thank you, thank you ! I love the Anne books and was disappointed I couldn't get audible versions of these two books. Appreciate your effort and sharing. I haven't listened to them to see if they'll work on my tablet or phone where I'd normally listen to them... so fingers crossed. Thanks again. Kathy from Sydney, Australia
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kathy and others.
ReplyDeleteI have read all the Anne books at least twice, most of them thrice, and they don't fade. The love and beauty of such a pure heart is rarely described so entertainingly.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a program or app that will play them... what do you play them on/with?
ReplyDeleteNot all devices are set up to play audiobook files. I play them in iTunes or on an iPod (get used ones cheap) or iPhone or iPad.
ReplyDeleteI think iTunes software is still available for free for Windows PCs.
If all fails, notice the alternative download links for the universal MP3 format.
Hi There,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the books, I notice the files are not there anymore (when I download them I get a message saying "Failed - No File"), any alternative mode to share them or download them?
- Eliberaus
Thank you for the notice.
ReplyDeleteI had moved servers and forgotten to update the links. It should all work now, pls tell me if it doesn't.
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYes, the first version (m4b) worked, I can play it with VLC media player. The Mp3 version, however, does not work.
I'm truly grateful for your assistance, I've been looking for this audiobook for years!
- Eliberaus
The MP3 version... Won't it download? Or won't it play on your system?
ReplyDeleteThe Mp3 version will not download at all.
ReplyDeleteIf you click on it it takes you to a "this page is not available"
If you try to save the link nothing happens.
- Eliberaus
Thank you. I must have been confused when I tested the links.
ReplyDeleteIt should work now.
Yep, it works. Thanks!
ReplyDelete- Eliberaus
Hi, I'm so excited to find these two books on an MP3 download. I've been looking for Anne of Windy Poplars for several years now on Audio. Even my library has not been able to order it. But alas the zip file is too big of a download for my computer. It takes about an hour to download and never quite finishes because of interrupt in my Centurylink service. Is there anyway that you could post smaller individual files? That is how I have to download the LibriVox audio downloads. :( I would love to listen to this book as I drive mail. Thank you for all your work on this. Sue
ReplyDeleteI'll see what I can do, Sue.
ReplyDeleteMay take a few days, I don't know.
Sue, I don't yet have Poplars in small chunks, but I have just posted Ingleside like that, see above.
ReplyDeleteEolake,
ReplyDeleteGreat resource, I'm late if not very late in reading the Anne series. I thank you for these audio versions. While it's easy to find printed versions and the first three these are readily available. These two remain very difficult to find.
Thanks again SGL
California
My pleasure, Scott. Welcome as an Anne fan! :-)
ReplyDeleteVisiting PEI and was excited to find this link. Sadly, it's not working right now. Will try again soon and keep my fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteRight now, TRAFFIC HAS EXCEEDED the limit of the host.
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting these. I keep getting that these are bad files that won't open. Just wondering if I am missing a solution or if your traffic school still too high?
Thanks
TJ
The files should be OK, they've worked so far.
ReplyDeleteCould be they were not fully downloaded. Unlikely.
Try opening with a different app.
Or try the compressed version, or vice-versa.
Bless you, I was beginning to think I might not find an audiobook version of this.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much of uploading.
Thank you thank you thank you! I have been waiting for this audiobook for about 20 years! So happy to finally find more Anne stories to listen to while working. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen any copies of the audiobooks for Emily Climbs or Emily's Quest? I have the audiobook for Emily of New Moon, but haven't been able to find the other two.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteNo, niether have I, sadly.
What I do is I use my Amazon Fire tablet (very cheap now). Its text-to-speech voice is the best I've heard, it's not so far from a real audiobook.
So glad to have found Anne of Ingleside. I was able to download it into iTunes. Thanks for putting this together.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I hadn't found either audiobook elsewhere
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing these, been looking for these for weeks. i been listening the series form https://librivox.org but they where missing these two books.
ReplyDeleteHi, I can't seem to access the files in the dropbox. It says zip files can't be previewed. I don't know what that means. Could you please help me out! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteTooba,
ReplyDeleteI get the same message, but under it is a download link, just use that.
Thank you very much
ReplyDeleteI think I will be able to produce audiobooks of the second and third Emily books soon!
ReplyDelete
