TV time

I just read that typical TV usage in the Western world (well, US at least) is six hour a day. Holy moly. Six hours! Average! Maybe it's no wonder that people brains are totally fried. I mean, the blinking, screaming ads alone would do that in much less time.

  1. Geeze, I don't know how people can stand it. These days, I can barely sit still long enough to watch an eleven minute cartoon.

  2. Oh, I watch a lot more than that, but it hasn't lobotomized me because I skip the commercials.

Everybody knows the programs themselves are all time well spent.

  3. Yes, so long as it's *good* game- and reality-shows.

Jes, me too. It's a bit disturbing. Wonder if the Net is involved.

  4. Facebook might be an even greater time-suck, it's the ultimate refuge of the closet narcissist. For all the cool things Facebook can do, more often than not it's just people complaining about the boring shit they do all day.

TV now involves a show about doctors or cops, "reality" shows, or singing competitions. If aliens discover us now, they'll be confused.

  5. I'd be hard pressed to find six hours at home and awake even two days a week. Where do people get all this time? Perhaps some of this is while doing other tasks, such as eating, etc.

  6. Oh! I'm terribly behind!

    Sure you are.

  7. A lot of people leave it on all the time to have in the background. I can't believe anyone actually watches that many hours per day.

  8. I thought about that. But it must be based on surveys or something, and why would somebody say "I watched six hours" if they meant "the set was on for six hours".
