The Game-Changing Cookbook

The Game-Changing Cookbook, article, thanks to TCGirl.
"... assemble 2,400 pages of results into a 47-pound, six-volume collection that costs $625 and requires four pounds of ink to print."

One might say: wow, impressive. And it is.  But I feel more like saying: wow, what hard-core use of trees and ink. Put the whole thing in an iPad instead. It becomes portable, searchable, and upgradable, and you can use it without fear of getting egg white on the very expensive pages. (Just put the iPad in a clear plastic bag.)

  1. Wouldn't we be better off spending that money on groceries or dining out?

  2. But there is still something wonderful about handling /opening and turning the pages of a real book. There is also the wonder of mixing chemicals and developing your own negs and then getting lost in time seeing your pictures slowly reveal themselves in a developing dish or carefully pulling a vinyl LP out of its sleave, popping it onto the record deck and slowly dropping the needle onto the first grooves…. Don’t get me wrong I love new technology like the iPad/iPod etc. and what it enables us ordinary people to do but I think we do lose something when we abandon the old ways of doing things. Hey! What if an expensive publication like this came with an e-book version as well! Then we could have our cake and eat it too.

GOOD NEWS: Amazon has it "for sale" for "only" $467.62, RIGHT NOW! And I clicked on "I'd like to read this book on Kindle." 'cuz I would! REALLY! :-D

  4. It is very picture-rich though, for sure, and in color, so on a Kindle... :(

On an iPad it would look great, I'm sure, but what a file size!! :-)
Would take two days to download I suspect.

Oh, yeah. Forgot! Not into the 21 Century on that one, yet! :-/

Yeah and...this is where a larger iPad would be nice...*with* a stand, of course! :-D

Good point! Would be cool if one could just download (and purchase!) one volume at a time. :-) Could be a nice gift for a 'Foodie' w/an iPad! :-D
