Vivian Maier, street photographer and nanny

Laurie J found this cool video (about 9 minutes) about Vivian Maier, street photographer and nanny.

---
As a photographer she was clearly exceptional. Top notch street photography.
[Update: Kent found a blog about Vivian.]

As a nanny, some likened her to Mary Poppins, delightful etc.
(But... as a sidebar, to me Mary Poppins in the movie never seemed like a delightful person. She seemed cold and domineering. Is it just me?)

  1. WOW, that's wonderful. What a story.

By the way EO, you must have watched a different version of Mary Poppins that I did. "She seemed cold and domineering"

    No way!!

  2. She totally was scary. Here's the trailer to refresh memory.

  3. Saw the exhibit today...in a word stunning. Vivian clearly had a sense of humor. Some very clever self portraits and wonderful decisive moments captured by her. A true artist in every sense of the word.

  6. Is this a different Kent from that not-so-lovable hick who used to show his ugly mug around here? It's probably a different guy. Other one's probably on Death Row by now.

  7. Dave Nielsen gave us one version, now here's another slightly happier version.

    Now, does she look mean?

  8. Admittedly it's a long time since I saw it all.

But it's weird, I think Julie A is the sweetest and prettiest thing, but something about this character rubs me the wrong way. Guess it reminds me of my own dark side.

  9. Very cool! I can imagine that to be quite something to see each new image. Fascinating!

  10. I liked the Mary Poppins books, but hated what little I've seen of the movie. I just don't like musicals for some reason. They really irritate me.

  11. Not my big thing either. But what I like less is Tim Burton's idea: musicals with puppets! I mean, that's just ridic.
