Self-value

If you really do put a small value upon yourself, rest assured that the world will not raise your price.

I like when people value themselves.
Now, some people combine it with a low value of others, which is unpleasant. That's not necessary. But false modesty isn't either. If you're one of the ten greatest pianists in the world, there's no reason you should say "oh, I'm only a beginner, really..."

I've no issue with that either: the problem arises when deluded people with over-inflated egos start doing the same, at the expense of what is the obvious truth to all around them.

I think everyone knows someone who believes that they are good / brilliant / the best within their field at something or other, when it is painfully obvious to all around that the indivudual is living in cuckoo-land, and is seriously mis-informed about their own ability and prowess.

I've seen it all too often: it seems to be extremely prolific, almost endemic, amongst the 'artistic' community (of which I count myself a member) ... painters, 'performers', artists, writers, photographers etc who are really no more than 'wannabe's (and often very poor examples of even that lowly status!)

Simple fact is, if a concensus of opinion says that you are good, you probably are, but no amount of banging your own drum will do that for you unless the talent is predsent and obviously in use ... in which case, public opinion will make that point clear, no?

  2. You could have said this in about 1/64 the number of words.

  3. Very profound. I've little doubt that everyone will appreciate such a well-considered comment.
    Thanks for that.

  4. That reply says it all: You know I'm right, but would be too embarrassed to delete your rambling, incoherent comments.

  5. Philocast could have said this in about 1/64th the number of words? 178 words divided by 64 is about 3.

I agree with what Philocast said, and it could not have been said more briefly.

It certainly could have, just not quite that briefly.

    Zero is a value, right?

Sod the word count Philocalist, I think you've said quite nicely what others might have struggled to put so eloquently!

Heh :-) Thats a bit like me telling people that I'm in shape ....
Well, 'round' is a shape, isn't it? :-)

    Word verification? Confess!

Everything he said was so obvious, but he seemed to think it was something profound no one else could have thought of, and then took his time saying it. Then this beauty: "amongst the 'artistic' community (of which I count myself a member)"

    bwahahahahahahahahaha

  10. Am I the only one to notice that these muppets who hide behind the 'Anonymous' label rarely if ever have anything positive or pleasant to say? It must be such a sad existance when the highlight of your social life is trying to get a rise from other contributors to blogs etc.
Now that I've said that, don't you just KNOW that the same 'Anomymous' will retaliate in their same cerebral style, which worries me somewhat.
After all, they are probably the same people who in real life would sucker punch you or stab you in the back, rather than face you, but it's very easy to anonymously press keyboard buttons, isn't it?

  11. No, you're far from the only one, it's been up several times. We have mainly one person, usually anon, but sometimes "Josie", so we call her that. She's just sniping everything. Pretty unproductive.

  12. Yeah, the little snake sneaked in again... I even lost what I wanted to write...

Well, basically, thanks for the quote ! :)
