Will iTunes replace your local comics store?

Will iTunes replace your local comics store?, article.

Interesting question. If (to cover all bases) you replace "iTunes" with "digital comics", I think it's only a question of "how soon" rather than "if".

  1. I hope so. I'd like to see it close, mainly because the people who run it are dicks. You know Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons? He works there.

Thing is, a device like the ipad is going to do for comics publishers what mp3s and ipods and other mp3 players did for music publishers. Pretty soon, only chumps will be paying for that stuff. I won't feel the least bit guilty about downloading comics for free considering what they cost these days. They've gone up more in the past 15 years than probably in the previous 50.

  2. Back in the 80s and 90s in Copenhagen, there were four major comic book stores (I'm guessing two still survives). Pretty much all the staff and particularly the owners were and surely are very nice people, who I always enjoyed chatting with.

  3. I can't believe how much comics cost these days either. It's no sweat off my dick, though, as I'm more into the classic stuff so I don't buy them anyway. Marvel is re-releasing the Masterworks series in paperback, or you can get one of their mammoth Omnibus editions. I bought the Spider-Man one, but it's a bit unwieldy. DC has their Archive editions. I don't own any of those as yet so I don't know what they're like.
