BMW Germany 's campaign for their factory approved "pre-owned" cars.

What's funny is that the ad actually has an "opposite" effect on me. Normally I don't give a tiny rat's ass about being the first, with women or cars, but this makes me think about it and get a little bit of an urgh reaction. Perhaps it's because she is so beautiful and innocent-looking.
Yeah, I have to agree that this ad pushes the envelope. The model definitely has that innocent look and one can easily wonder if she's even of legal age? With the right girl and the right makeup, a 17 year old can easily look much older.
ReplyDeleteI guess the message is that there's nothing unclean or unpure about owning a used BMW! ;-)
Yes, either that, or that you *want it*, even if it is "sloppy seconds".
ReplyDeleteNot so much pushing the envelope as bursting the bubble of the most ridiculous of male doublethink. The equivalent advertisement targeted at women would be largely incomprehensible--I speak as someone who was advised to go away and practice on some other poor unfortunate.
ReplyDeleteWow! Well done for forthrightness! :-)
ReplyDeleteI must be worrying about photography too much, because the first thing I thought was nice lighting, but they overdid the retouching on her skin.
ReplyDeleteHow sad for me...
And I actually own a used BMW too :-\
s'not as bad as some. Virtually all photography in glossy magazines, especially advertising (... is there anything else?) is woe-fully over-retouched. Any model is made into a plastic doll their mother would not recognize.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you there. Then again, it's a car ad. What else would you expect from those monorail-minded "professionals"? :-P
ReplyDeleteSaddest part is, I bet it works quite well with the general bubblic.
Hollow head-insinuating typo intended.
Miserere,
"nice lighting, but they overdid the retouching on her skin"???
Shame on you! Really, can't you think of anything else? ;-)
The quality of the ride is separate from the age of the vehicle.
ReplyDeleteSame goes for cars.
Ugh. That's kind of...I don't know. Sleazy. It made me think for a second they meant her to be a whore. No one except a john would look at a woman as 100% just a piece of meat, no one otherwise is that crude. Kind of the wrong way to go about selling the idea they want to sell.
ReplyDeleteWe have to remember, "subtle" is different things in different areas. :-)
