Looking at curvy women 'gives men the same high as drugs', article.
It's no lie. It's an extremely powerful attraction, it's remarkable.
It's not just biological either, because the effect is often not dependent upon getting a sexual relationship, or even wanting one. Just the
looking gives a high.

ReplyDeleteIt is biological. Of course it is. You wouldn't look or get anything out of looking were it not for sexual attraction, which is 100% biological. This is fact, not my opinion. Knowing intellectually that you're not going to score with the chick doesn't matter, your body and primitive parts of the brain are fooled.
Btw I did notice you said "just" but it's 100% biological, is the point.
ReplyDeleteThis is why girls would rather have beauty than brains - because guys can see better than they can think.

ReplyDeleteROTFL! Well, er, spotted! (I think...)
Still, let's not forget that scientists often tend to jump to the final conclusions. The brain's "pleasure circuit" is a single structure, activated to the max by drugs, but also by anything which we feel pleasant. So "the same mechanism as drugs" doesn't necessarily imply "the same INTENSITY as drugs".
A saint helping those in need will feel pleasure from doing what's right, in the exact same brain circuit. What sets us apart is our motivations. The feeling of satisfaction is something fundamentally, biologically universal. Part of our nature as humans. "I know how you feel" is seldom a lie. :-)
Orgasm is one of the most powerful NATURAL stimulants of the "pleasure circuit". [Animals do consume naturally-produced pleasuring drugs such as poppy or coca, but I'll consider this as already "artificial", because it's extrinsic... and addictive!] Being in love is one powerful stimulant too, when it's a happy love. If unreciprocated, however, the same circuit is turned off, far below its "neutral" mean tonus. Causing depression.
At any rate, Eolake, I'd say your job is a good therapy against your depression issues. :-)
