The Depressing News About Antidepressants, article.
"By and large," says Kirsch, "the unpublished studies were those that had failed to show a significant benefit from taking the actual drug."

  1. I have heard that taking them ultimately makes you worse as the brain stops making its own seratonin and depends on the drug. That's just what I've heard. Maybe Pascal will weigh in on this.

  2. I'm not surprised by this. I've got a couple of friends who are on SSRIs/SNRIs, and not a single one of them got "better" after getting on the pills. One of them turned into a slut, one a drunk, one became aggressive and one became a Holier-Than-Thou religious nutter. I keep getting the impression that these type of pills really mess with self-control. I love my friends, but I liked them a lot better before they were on drugs.

  4. Hi, guys. Sorry for leaving you waiting like this, but I have stormy weather -due to last a few days-, so gotta unplug my modem for safety. I'll make this first comment very brief:
These drugs DO work, I have certain proof of this. But, and this is in Psycho-pharmacology 101, "they're not a miracle self-sufficient solution", and "they need to be given only in adequate cases and with adequate professional monitoring".
Back with more as soon as I can. The Big Stomach In The Sky is rumbling...
