Twitter too

I've decided to give Twitter another chance, for those small thoughts which are really too short and disconnected for a blog post. Follow me here.

(I've also made a tweet for Domai announcements.)

If you use Twitter, it should also be an easy way to keep up with new posts here, if I remember to notify about them.

It seems to me that Twitter easily gets used as a chat channel... does it? And does this not cripple it a little bit?

Is there a way to turn off seeing everybody else's tweets on somebody's home page? And is there a way to make an "@" tweet private?
Update: yes, it seems there's a "direct message", but it's not obvious how one does that...

  1. OK dude, I'm following you. Better be churning out some sterling silver tweets by tomorrow or I'm cutting you off.

    :-p

There are ways to make such notifications automatic. I'm not sure how exactly as I haven't done that myself, but many Blogger users seem to have such automations in place.

You can use Twitter however you want. Some chat, some don't. Some don't even follow anyone, they use Twitter just for announcements. I find that some interactivity or reciprocality is part of the culture, but even then it's up to you.

Yes, it's called a DM (direct message).

BTW, the only reason I've kept using Twitter (lazily) for a full year now is because I discovered the Tweetie app. It's very convenient.

  3. Actually, could you be one of those nice Twitterers that only tweets once every 2-3 days? I follow some people who tweet about once per hour, and I don't understand how they expect me to follow everything they tweet.

I admit that I still don't understand Twitter as a large-scale social media utility.

  4. Oh you're on Twitter - so good to have you in the community. At first I didn't think much of Twitter, but after a while I found out that it's also a useful instrument for broadcasting announcements and sharing instant thoughts and feelings. Funny that the Twitter idea should be working, as a business model...

Yes, I'm beginning to see that. Thanks.

And I have found an app for Twitter, called Kiwi, it seems practical.

I'll try. If I can do it without forgetting it.

I may do it more often, I don't know. It seems tweeting is often used as a sort of "background chatter" which you only pay half attention to, until something catches your eye.
