The Naked Knitting
calendar is out. A cancer support project done by friends and friends of friends.
I haven't found any sample pictures online, I'm inquiring about that. You don't sell so much of what people can't see!
Update: a response with a few
samples.
Update 2:

Better to be begging in the streets than appearing semi-buck-naked with
ReplyDeleteother suburban matrons displaying one's two-axehandles-across arse in public. Shame on you, Granny! Have you no couth whatsoever?
That's harsh and uncalled for, Ray.
ReplyDelete"I haven't found any sample pictures online, I'm inquiring about that. You don't sell so much of what people can't see!"
ReplyDeleteCome on now, honestly, you're just knit-peeking!
I think (and hope) that Ray was jesting.
Now you mention it, he probably was. But it should be rather more funny to justify itself, methinks. And I'm rarely the first to get offended.
ReplyDelete... I have an email correspondent who said she thinks Ray is a misogynist, and that was *before* this post, so I think one should have a care how people will receive things one say.
ReplyDeleteHere you go!
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
Laurie.

Thank you very much.
ReplyDelete(Rather smaller samples than I'd hoped, but thanks nonetheless. (There's probably worries about non-authorized printing, that's often the case.))
Yes, the ladies asked to keep the samples very small and add the text. Not something I like doing to an image normally.
ReplyDeletePS, Ray IS joking isn't he?
All the best,
Laurie.
PS. Sorry I've not been around much but I'm back in the UK for the rest of the year now and I have an internet connection again!
PS.
ReplyDeleteI love this shot from the calendar,

All the best,

Yes, good one.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but I forget, were you the photographer on this project?
The single word of CANCER is enough to stop a conversation in a room full of people.
ReplyDeleteThese ladies are trying to make a difference. By raising funds and raising awareness. They are doing what they can to defeat cancer.
It is like a great bolder that is being attacked with a small hammer. It takes a long time and lots of effort. But given enough time the bolder will be defeated.
Got to love these women. They are the true meaning of being a hero. We all need more heroes like these.

That's harsh and uncalled for, Ray.
ReplyDeleteMost of Ray's comments are nasty and uncalled for. I suspect he's actually responsible for most of the nastiest anonymous comments. He puts his name on the ones that are at least approaching respectability.
Just a crotchety old man with one foot (or let's face it a hole leg) in the grave. Not likely to trouble the world for much longer.
I was indeed the photographer. Have a look at their blog,

All the best,

I hadn't thought of myself as a suburban matron before.....and I'm not sure anyone who sees the calendar would think so either....but you can't please all the people all the time!
ReplyDeleteI suspect there may be a bit less flesh than you are used to Eolake - but hope you like it, and would like to thank you and all your blog readers for your interest :)
Thanks for your email - as you can see, it has been actioned.

Right you are, Stormina. (Or Mrs Teacup, if you prefer. ;-)
ReplyDeleteTo me, the concept of a matron is incompatible with a woman open, relaxed and confident enough to pose nude, however worthy the cause.
Aren't matrons supposed to be ugly, obese, severe, glum, hairy-lipped, and extremely strict on a certain conception of what's "properly moral", by definifion?... Seems to me like this calendar is the exact opposite, not to mention very pretty and tasteful. I wouldn't be embarrassed to see my mother in it.
I'd rather imagine "suburban matrons" as the ones angrily demonstrating against this calendar, calling it obscene, and declaring cancer to be "natural and intended by God". Or some such bigoted nonsense.
Unless I'm getting mixed up with suburban chaperons? ;-)
My English isn't perfect.
P.S.: This is why I reckon Ray was jesting. Suggesting he was shocked by photos of 90 year-olds larger than Cadillacs felt too over the top to possibly be taken seriously.
ReplyDeleteBut maybe Ray himself should confirm (or infirm). I'm only speaking from my own point of view here.
@ Pascal....
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have picked up on my apparently weird sense of humour,
where everyone else jumped on it as an opportunity to throw shit at somebody else. And I probably deserved that, because I did haul off and open my big fat mouth before engaging brain. To those of you offended by that, I apologize.
As for being a misogynist (use the spell-checker next time, darling!)
I've never thought of myself as such. I've been married twice, and have had five children from those marriages, and if I now seem like a grouchy old man, it's only because I probably am. I'm going to be 77 in a couple of weeks, and
that has put a damper on my sense
of humour, it seems. The news from my urologist that I've got prostate cancer didn't do a hell of a lot for it, either. So if I've hurt your feelings by trying to be a 'smart-ass', I apologize.
And just for the record, I don't do anonymous comments - I hate those with a passion, because anyone who doesn't have the courage to put their name to something ought to shut the hell up. Just in case you were wondering.
"As for being a misogynist (use the spell-checker next time, darling!)"
ReplyDeleteThanks for calling me darling, but I think I spelled it correctly.
Anyway, like Piet Hein pointed out, there's a bit serious in any joke, and something funny in anything serious.
