Giant puppets. Photos. HQ video.
I don't know, there's something about the girl-puppet in the video that I find creepy. And according to the Comments, while I seem to be in the minority, I'm not alone. One commenter said: "nicely taken video of that overly cute girl!" and another said: "Its very impressive, and very creepy."
Maybe it's because they've come just close enough to make it look and move like a human that its striking un-human-ness becomes depressing.
Creepy, okay. But "depressing"?
ReplyDeleteIt's like a ventriloquist puppet, at a much bigger scale: great talent makes them incredibly "alive" and human-like.
Also, this display was a metaphor of the formerly divided Germany. Perhaps part of its tragic side, expressed through the mega-puppets, contributes to the unnerving sensation.
"Thunderbirds, go!"
Yeah, "depressing" is not quite the right word, I never found that.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you meant more the dark romantism atmosphere of Coraline or City of the Lost Children?
ReplyDeleteAfter all, it's a strong "story" because most of it is emotional and tragic, but still it's got optimistic courage, since it ends well.
Better than Doctor Zhivago, anyway. :-/
