Himmelskibet (The Sky Ship)
Alex told me: I was just browsing through an old Science Fiction film encyclopedia, and I found reference to Himmelskibet. It sounds like an interesting film. The book even claimed it to be the first space opera.
Seems the Danes kept away from SF for a long time, making two SF films before 1920, then nothing until 1969.
Himmelskibet (4 million miles from Earth aka The Airship) was an anti-war film, and though ready in 1917, was not screened until 1918.
The images I've seen, both in Encyclopedia and on the web, make it look very much like the leading inspiration for Flash Gordon with regards visual styling.
I see it was released on DVD in 2006, but I can't find a copy locally for rental. Will have to dig deeper into this one.

Small institute, small release.
