Especially that the photo doesn't show what came next. The bloody tanks actually went over the people, just like that. And China never changed. But after that crystal-clear message, how could anybody be surprised?

According to what I've read about that, not written by the Chinese, the video footage of it shows the tanks several times trying to go around him. Then after a while he just disappeared into the crowd.
Still, that takes brass fucking balls.
And China never changed. But after that crystal-clear message, how could anybody be surprised?
From their point of view there's little reason to change. Several countries today, including China and Russia, have found that they can have their repressive, corrupt political regimes and still be economically successful. They've found that people making bags of money don't complain much.
Lebanon ain't changing, either.
That's a shame. France probably looks pretty attractive, or possible la belle province (a.k.a. Quebec).

Yes, although it's true that the Chinese don't have a stellar record of human rights. It's not like they couldn't change. I mean look at Japan today. Not much resemblance to the Japan of 60 years ago.
