This is another of my favorite songs of Lex Og Klatten's. I saw it on Utoob, but without video, so I uploaded it myself.
The song is a satire about celebreties bitching about how tough it is to be overrun by fans everywhere. (The title means "too famous".)
"I dream I've died and am at Heaven's Gate. And St. Peter takes me aside to ask for an autograph. And then I wake up screaming."
Hum...
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't understand them while they are singing. So I may be missing the whole artistic side of it. But, well, as you translate it...
I just find it quite amusing. Are we supposed to have pity for them?
My reaction: well: if you wanted to be a famous band, and now you are, be happy. I sounds quite logic that if you are a famous band, people will ask autographs. Or... was that not foreseeable? I mean: I can understand that it is troubling. But to write a song about it... ?
And, from my point of view... I don't know them, I would not ask autographs.
It reminds me of the very funny article you posted about the rich being struck by the crisis. They cannot use their personal planes every day. I can understand it's a pity for them, but it does not activate my commiseration. Sorry... :-)
Obviously it's sarcastic humor.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't think any of them were particularly famous when they made it. Whether that makes it more or less funny, I'm not sure. :-)
> Obviously it's sarcastic humor.
ReplyDeleteHum, I couldn't know... So many artists really make songs like this about some terrible sides of their artist life... :-)
> And I don't think any of them were particularly famous when they made it. Whether that makes it more or less funny, I'm not sure. :-)
I think if they are obviously not famous, that makes it funny.
I think there's no way to prepare yourself for the intrusion of fame. To not be able to go anywhere without people recognizing you. And if you don't look your best every time you go out you'll end up in one of those "Look what the stars look like without makeup" kind of thing. Of course, it depends. Brad Pitt with a bed head, in sloppy old clothes, and not having shaved for a week probably still looks good - somehow he'd pull it off.
ReplyDelete"To not be able to go anywhere without people recognizing you."
ReplyDeleteYes. Might be fun for a couple weeks, then it must really suck.
BTW, I don't think anybody would make a *serious* song about this. Nobody would have any sympathy for somebody who bitches about being a celebrity, fair or not.
