Best sex lasts just minutes, says study
Best sex lasts just minutes, says study, article. "according to the survey by US and Canadian sex therapists, what most people describe as 'satisfactory' sex usually lasts anywhere between three and 13 minutes." -
Like the definition of "is," the question is what the definition of "sex" is. Starting with a lengthy shower for two, and ending....well, that's neither here nor there...and we easily extend the pleasure to at least 45 minutes.
In hook-ups, in which the sex begins with sex-talk / flirting / seduction, one can argue that the entire affair lasts several hours, not uncommonly beginning about 4:30 p.m. with light drinks and heavy hors d'oeuvres, continuing through a romantic steak and lobster dinner, moving to her apartment for some after dinner drinks, the aforementioned shower, and .... and ending well after midnight.
As noted earlier, it probably all depends on definition of sex. I'm eternally optimistic. Three to thirteen minutes sounds extremely unsatisfying, but I wouldn't know, having not experienced such a short episode.
Ya'll are taking this way too seriously ...... for a few good laughs, go back to the original article and read the adjacent tennis match headlines as if they were related to the subject of the article .......... Canadian and American Sex Therapists' Perceptions of Normal and Abnormal Ejaculatory Latencies: How Long Should Intercourse Last?

ABSTRACT Introduction. Lay public perceptions about how long intercourse should last are discrepant from objective data on ejaculatory latencies. This may be problematic as the subjective interpretation of latency is a factor related to perceived distress with length of intercourse.
Aim. Quantify the opinion of expert sex therapists as to what are "adequate," "desirable," "too short," and "too long" intravaginal ejaculatory latencies.
Method. A random sample of members of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research in the United States and Canada was surveyed.
Main Outcome Measure. Intravaginal ejaculatory latency, in minutes, for four different conditions: coitus that lasts an amount of time that is "adequate,""desirable,""too short," and "too long."
Results. The interquartile range for the sex therapists' opinions regarding an "adequate" length for ejaculatory latency was from 3 to 7 minutes; "desirable" from 7 to 13 minutes; "too short" from 1 to 2 minutes; "too long" from 10 to 30 minutes.
Conclusions. Therapists' beliefs about ejaculatory latencies were consistent with objective data on ejaculatory latency and were not affected by therapist demographic characteristics such as sex or experience. These results suggest that the average sex therapist believes that intercourse that lasts 3 to 13 minutes is normative and not prima facie worthy of clinical concern. Dissemination to the public of these results may change lay expectations for intravaginal ejaculatory latency and prevent distress. These results may also be beneficial to couples in treatment for sexual problems by normalizing expectations.

We can note two things: (1) This data represents the beliefs of sex therapists. (2) The report explicitly states what the criteria for sex is: "Intravaginal ejaculatory latency" (i.e., The length of time from when the male enters the female to when the man ejaculates.)

I'm guessing they define it as the period from the point the genitals get involved to the point where they no longer are.

ReplyDeleteThey seem to be in a race to reach the finish line.
I am sure that *he* was satisfied. Wonder what *she* thought about it?

Yes, admittedly this seems to have been mainly published in Indian tabloids, nowhere really respectable.
ReplyDeleteMaybe so but it's old news, they've been saying this for years.

Thanks. The last point explains why the numbers seem short to many. But to be pumping away for more than 15 mins is just silly.
ReplyDeleteUnless she's having multiple orgasms -- that's a lot of fun for everybody!
ReplyDeleteAnd, of course, it's possible for the man to have them too -- then it's REALLY fun.
I really wonder how people would know how many minutes it lasts. Unless they are really bored.
ReplyDeleteI've never watched the clock while doing it.
I'll try next time.
Anonymous comments make me wonder if he's ever done it.
