Grain
Just an experiment in adding film-like grain to digital photos. I kinda like it. It may sometimes be a solution to the occasionally overly realistic character of digital photos. (Of course it's not a great solution when you want maximum detail.)
I did this as well a while back using a grain sample. Some sites on the web have a collection of grains from various traditional film stocks. You can use them as a tile and fill a layer in PS. Then by setting the layer mode and transparency you can control the effect. Another useful thing is premade colour curves that mimic film response. You can load the curve and it adjuts the colour to resemble the feel of certain films. I played around with these as well and they were pretty cool. Together, I can mimic a $20 Holga with my Canon 20D!
You just scanned that out of a gardening book ;-)

ReplyDeleteYes, that's progress! :-)
ReplyDeleteNow this is an interesting twist. I have tried to get rid of grain and you guys are putting it back in (grin)..
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm aware of the irony.
ReplyDeleteThere's no flaw so bad that you won't at some point be nostalgic for it.
