I'm always amazed by guys who can paint photo-realistic images by hand. I've forgotten the name of that iranian artist, he paints scenes and portraits from his country, both technically perfect and very atmospheric/pretty.
I promise to tell you his name and send you samples the day I find on which old CD I've put them. He's been nicknamed "the world's best painter". In a way, he is.
Of course, tastes will always differ. I once read that [Flash Gordon artist] Alex Raymond's drawing style has "plastic beauty that remains without equal". Depends on your notion of beauty, doesn't it? Many artists with their own style make very beautiful stuff.
I guess these could be done in photoshop, altho they are nicer then most photoshopped work I have seen and I guess its the end result that matters. The one you chose is my favourite.
I have always envied people who can capture the softness of skin like this, it seems like no matter how I try I simply can not saturate the canvas the proper amount while keeping the subject and its surroundings in balance. Very fine work indeed :)

I can admire the skill required to paint this, but that's about it.
