Sinead o'Connor

Sinead o'Connor, Elton John's Sacrifice (from the docu Two Rooms):

And Mandinka, live:

(I think the album version is much superior, though.)

And of course there's the wonderful Kate Bush doing Rocket Man.

  1. Kate Bush doing *Rocket Man* in a business suit kind of takes a little something away from it, for me! lol! I wouldn't even have minded her *recycling* her costume from *The Dreaming*! lol! I would have understood: tough times; saving on costume costs! But...the business suit?! lol!

And...sorry but...it's very difficult for me to like any other version but Elton's...especially a female version of. I've never thought of checking to see what other males have done a version of this song. Hm...must go look! It would be kind of sexy...w/a handsome, straight [at least looking!] dude singing it! ;-)

  2. "Eolake said...
    Like Freddie Mercury?" :-)

OK. You *got* me on that technicality. I think it would be a LOT nicer knowing that the dude was not gay. lol! Freddie looked pretty cute but...looks like he might have been gay? :-(

I rather liked The Nixons version! (wish there had been a vid of them playing. I don't know this band but...I see that Zac Maloy had long hair. I like that. :-P)

    and...

The Avery Stone Band dude did a pretty good version, too (even though someone needs to put his drummer behind a sound wall(whatever that's called?) and turn up the bass player...as well as the lead! lol!) but...the dude needs a little more *meat* on his arms for me to *enjoy* lookin' at 'im! lol! ;-) (not a very clear vid, either :-(

I fricken loved this dude's version. He's got a sexy voice! Yum! This sexy voice; beautiful guitar strumming and...a clean, long-haired dude (I know...probably far and few between! I don't ask for much! lol!) would be nice. ;-) I didn't have time to go through 6K versions of Rocket Man to see if there was one! Lemme know if anyone finds one! ;-) Oh and...I was wrong: Elton has been outdone! lol! ;-)

  3. Yeah, the Nixons' version is interesting.

Didna know you could dig hard rock like dat. Good for ya, I think an eclectic taste is a sign of a mature mind.

  4. ... Yeah, good guitar work.

Though I think a fast version, like often happens, misses out of one of the best features of the song: the soft, slow, macro-beat:

"I think it's gonna BE a long long TIME, till touchdown BRINGS me round again to FIND..."

  5. Sinéad O'Connor is a fairly challenging artist, and I think it's difficult to be a popular success with challenging work. But, by God, she's great!

  6. Yes.
I particularly loved The Lion And The Cobra album. "Just Like You Said It Would Be" for instance.
