Does anybody know if there exists something like a lens pouch which attaches to your belt?
So you can carry a lens or two beyond the one on the camera, without the burden of a bag or the heat-insulation or geekiness of a "photo vest"...
Update: thanks to everybody.
The mention of "bum bags" made me think of something a bit more flexible, and this made me find a product I did not know existed: the camera belt bag. So I ended up ordering the Think Tank Speed Demon.
It's flexible, does not weigh down your shoulders, and it's much faster to get your camera out of than a shoulder- or back pack. Of course it only holds a small amount of gear though, basically one DSLR with one extra lens (maybe two), and various accessories. (They have larger varieties for bigger equipment.)
Think Tank's products are highly praised, and even this specific one comes with testimonials from working pros, so I'm sure it's not a toy.
Eolake,
ReplyDeleteI just saw the new pics. I especially liked the one of Ceverina.
Bravo! I still think you should do a series on "Ten years later". Great work. Keep it up. Also enjoy the blog.

Try CCS (Camera Care Systems) as I think they make some.
ReplyDeleteLook at LowePro; they have a large variety of camera and lens pouches, including neoprene camera pouches, with belt clips that could probably accomodate a lens.

LowePro, another vote. Quality is there and I've used them clambering about. I've also used padded water-bottle carriers that have belt loops (or I attach using carabiners) made by backpacking/trekker companies. Don't need to be in rough places to appreciate tough protection.

ReplyDeleteWhy not try a Fanny Pack?

Uncle Ron,
ReplyDeletethat is disgusting.
In Britain we call them "Bum Bags" because you wear them around the waist, over your rear.
Once the average Brit quits flushing at the term, they then ponder how women can walk around with something like that between their legs.
Still, it raises the question, are there lens holder sporrans?
Eolake,
ReplyDeleteAs well as Lowepro I would suggest you check http://www.thinktankphoto.com/ and www.newswear.co.uk both companies make a range of modular belts and pouches. You should be able to find something that will meet your needs.

ReplyDeleteWell then...I suggest you check out more of these Bum Bags (Sorry Alex)

You can wear them on your bum...I don't think women wear them between their legs over here...
Thanks to all.
ReplyDelete... Actually I hadn't considered a "bum bag". While they are considered low rent, I don't see why they have to be ugly, and I think they might be very practical, they don't fall off or weigh down your shoulder.
Many Americans may not be aware that "fanny" refers to the pussy in the UK, not the butt.
ReplyDeleteThink Tank, which I know is top notch, has some interesting professional belt solutions, for example:

ReplyDeleteSorry Alex...
I didn't know your fanny and my fanny are two different fannies...
(British) Fanny... To us the front bottom; to you the back one. In Britain, the fanny pack is known as a bum bag for obvious reasons...
I have learned something today...Thank you all
Now I'm not carrying rolls of film, if I get that 18-200 VR lens, all I need to carry, beyond the camera, are a grad grey (or will dLighting fix that) and a polarizer to go with the camera. Do I really need a bag?
ReplyDeleteHey, this is what I needed for my DX7440. Tripod mount attachment for filters for digicams and point and shoots!
"Do I really need a bag?"
ReplyDeleteNo.
Though sometimes I might want to carry a super-wide also.
Or the bag is just something to hold the camera when I sit down for lunch, and to hold other things like a book or my iPod.
