Neil Gaiman, size of web images

This book by Neil Gaiman, for children, is probably cool. But it's hard to tell because the "sample images" are just two tiny ones, basically thumbnails, as I had predicted before I clicked through to that page.
How come web designers seem stuck in the mid-nineties when it comes to image sizes on the web? Less than 600 x 800 pixels is not a proper image, people, get with it.

  1. Maybe they are still catering to people who connect via dialup using a 2400 baud modem?

Let's hope those folks aren't trying to get maximum value out of a domai subscription ;)

  2. They are afraid of it being stolen and and losing their copywrites. At least that is the comment I hear about posting sizes. Oh, and there still are a lot of people on dial-up, believe it or not. I would be except for I pay out the nose for satellite.
