Ethnologie française

A french academic/scientific journal called Ethnologie française wants to use my drawing The Swan and the Swine as an illustration for a special issue about relationships between humans and animals. Rather cool.

Update: looking for the original of that drawing, I looked at some posters which had not been unrolled for about five moves and almost 20 years. One of them was a The Cure poster. I'm so ashamed! :-)

  1. Let me congratulate you. For someone to come and hunt you down for a picture must be very gratifying.

Don't forget to tell us when the article is published. Also, let us know if you think the picture is appropriate for the article, both as an image, and in you initial concept of the image.

One thing I see in the picture is opulent banquets, both boar and swan were served at such occasions.

  2. The drawing was made for a multi-performer concert nigh 20 years ago, which was called The Swan and The Swine for some reason.

  3. Must be The Beauty and The Beast image. Whatever, its a neat picture.

  4. Thank you very much. It's one of my good ones, I think.
It was done in one evening, because the original poster artist dropped out.
The arranger of the concert told me later that people tended to keep the poster (which was B/W line art) hanging much longer than other things.

Yes, it's clearly a beauty/beast thing. Also, both in Danish and English, the title has nice alliteration. ("Svanen og Svinet".)

  5. Congrats indeed. That image made it to my favorite collection the very time I first saw it (a few years back).

  6. Neat. Congrats for getting appreciation. Don't know the journal, but it sounds very serious and respected.
It IS a very nice picture. :-)

Your anecdote reminded me of some poster art I myself did way back in 1989 (when I didn't know a thing about proper drawing!). A tiny colorized sample can be seen here. [Nudity warning, NSFW site.]
Our second year class in Med School was organizing the initiation ragging of the freshmen, and my spontaneous contribution was to make funny posters for it (B/W line art). By the end of the evening there wasn't a single one left, people had taken them all. I was very flattered. :-)

I'll post the full versions on my blog some day, when I find the time. Probably with added colors.

As well you should be, that's rare.

  8. Hey, if Pascal is plugging his art, can I plug my humble efforts?

  9. Thanks, Eo. That's not one of my worst memories. :-)

    Alex,
This here is the perfect place for plugging one's humble efforts.
Since, you know, only obscure art geeks like us will ever visit this page. (Sorry, R.A.F., I'm stealing your job there. Call me an illegal alien.)
Though your efforts are not so humble after all. :-)
Pour un ethnologue français, c'est un effort intéressant.
