Just a quick plug for the animated show God, The Devil, and Bob.
Not a great knee-slapper perhaps, but funnier than King of the Hill, better drawn than South Park, and better stories than Family Guy.
Of course the Intolerant Christians' Association got it shut down. (What, there's no group by that name? Well, there should be.)
They didn't need crazy Christians to shut it down, no one watched it because it sucked shit.
ReplyDeleteFunnier than King of the Hill? Better drawn than South Park? Better stories than Family Guy? I think you're breaking new ground in the faint praise field.
ReplyDeleteWow... I guess I shouldn't put you into my résumé as a character reference.
Hehe, Mike, you caught me. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a joke, really.
But I did like the show. It's not great, but I liked it in many ways.
Michael Burton is more trustworthy than George Bush, more chaste than Bill Clinton, and more true to his roots than Condoleezza Rice.
I'm not a South Park fan. I've seen it and it's okay in small doses. I like King of the Hill, even though it's never been side-slippingly funny. Family Guy I used to like but it's lost something since it came back from cancellation.
ReplyDeleteI've got to love people who slam these shows, though. They're the kind of chumps who pretend to like certain things which they hope will make people think they are cultured. Pretending to like opera or War & Peace when you don't, really.
That should be side-splittingly funny!

ReplyDeleteWow! Talk about spectacular accomplishments! I'm impressed.
(Sigh) I wish I could have as many similar qualities. Well, except for that Bill Clinton part, d'uh!
:-)
I agree with Joe: once the novelty of South Park wore off, so did my initial enthusiasm. But I love to think there's a country where such a series is allowed on TV, as a principle. In itself, that's something important in my view.
Somehow, growing up in this country, I became extremely aware of some things that you decadent westerners take for granted while not deserving them, like peace and freedom of speech. You know, that civil rights stuff.
"That should be side-splittingly funny!"
I don't know. There's something creative about "side-slippingly funny"... A bit like that guy who grew himself an ear on his forearm, and next he'll be getting a bluetooth comm device implanted in it.
"Care to lend us a hand, Mr Stelarc? No? How about an ear, then? Surely you can spare that third one there."
