Dethklok
"There's no such thing as trolls."
"Then how do you explain all the dead unicorns?"
"If you wanted to depress us, you did it... Now I need a drink. Not this one, a different one. In a different place."
Metalocalypse is an animated show about the death-metal band Dethklok. I wonder why they did not just call the show Dethklok. Or call the band Metalocolypse. It would save the audience from having to learn two new made-up words. But anyway, the show is over-the-top brutal, and very funny. It's like South Park for metalheads, only better drawn. And the parody of brain-dead rockers is spot on.
Thanks to my gal pal Gail Worley. A hard core rock writer with pink hair.
Ahhh Dethklok. They may be a mere novelty band but I love their music. Although I'm a little surprised the show is to your liking, Eo.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, you can see interviews with the band members on Adultswim.com The following is my favorite: http://www.adultswim.com/video/?episodeID=8a25c392155ace1401155cf1ffe80054
Why the surprise? I've posted several times about bands like Ministry, Skinny Puppy, and Illuminati.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a surprise at the music but the show. I know you've watched South Park but I didn't get the impression it was really your cup of tea. It seemed like the brutality would be a major turn-off.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the name check E. Glad to hear you are digging the 'klok!

I love brutality when it's done with humor.
ReplyDeleteI like SP a lot. Only the writing is uneven.
Well, the show was originally called Deathclock Metalocalypse. But they couldn't use the spelling of "Deathclock" due to copywrite issues.
ReplyDeleteSo it was changed to Dethklok Metalocalypse. And finally shorten to Metalocalypse.
Supposedly, Dethklok is to bring about the Metalocalypse from the show's mythology.
Ah, thanks.
ReplyDelete"Deathclock" is a good word, in that it sounds familiar. I would have sworn it had a prior meaning, but it appears it does not.

Ahhh, so I see. Well, as noted, it was only a little surprise, like that hard little nub sometimes felt when sitting on a midget's lap. Granted, this is a mite more pleasant.
Oh dude, I love that show! "We can'ts tunes down our guitars any lowers!"
ReplyDeleteAlthough I do find it a little disturbing that one of the better metal bands around right now would be a fake band. :P
Indeed.
ReplyDeleteCheck the Ministry post a couple days ago. Nobody rocks like Ministry at their best.
Definately, but I was thinking as far as younger bands go. There's not much there outside of the whole "bang on your instruments and make barking noises" style.
ReplyDeleteIf the humor of Metalocalypse is up your alley, I believe you'll enjoy the intro song for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Movie:
