Why is Brian De Palma so tremendously respected? I've never seen any film of his that I thought was better than decent, and some are just dreadful, like the one I'm trying to watch right now, Phantom Of The Paradise. It's like somebody tried to make a quaint and abstract movie, but just didn't have the talent to support it. And yet De Palma is a huge name, especially amongst movie buffs, I don't get it.
Mission Impossible was ridiculous. (Numbers two and three at least had some faint grounding in reality.)
I tried to watch Carlito's Way last year, but I don't remember anything about it.
Raising Cain was unwatchable.
Blowout was OK, I guess, but didn't seem to have made much of an impression on me, I mainly remember the theatre I watched it in.
Hi Mom was just weird.
Mission To Mars was an unremarkable blockbuster attempt. The same for Bonfire Of The Vanities and The Untouchables. And Ronin.
Scarface was uninteresting. Not even Michelle Pfeiffer kept my interest on it.
There's something wrong with a guy who doesn't like to see shit get blowed up. Blowed up real good. At least, straight guys.
ReplyDeleteYes, I admit I out of touch with my inner neanderthal.
ReplyDeleteAre you really a woman? I hope so, because that is the only pussy you're likely to get.
ReplyDeleteAh, I just saw Carrie for the first time last weekend. Just like all teen slasher flicks of the vintage it seemed a little OTT, and it definitely looked dated. It looked almost low budget going by the color and sound quality.
ReplyDeleteThere are those of us who love these, and those of us who don't. I still like the occasional Hammer film, they are all kinda hammy, and just a vehicle for some suspense and some TnA.
For my explosions I prefer SF or Bond over horror or war movies.

ReplyDeleteThe orginal Scarface was the best. I was talked into watching this one by my son. Though I'm not really into those kind of movies, I liked that one. Pacino was excellent.
Moral of the story: Those that live by the sword will DIE by the sword. I wonder if silverspoon bush knows this?
I still haven't seen an Al Pacino movie that I did not really like. The man is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe only one on that list I've seen is Scarface, which I loved. Especially the chainsaw scene.
