Most "Art cars" I've seen start off as beater/clunkers anyway, and take many year to complete. They become something special and different, and are too long in the tooth to have residual value as a car, their value is in the car. However, this level of "sign writing" is akin to a trade vehicle with its logo's and adverts, they are detrimental to resell value. For business logos though it is an advertising cost, so not a loss.
