[Thanks to Norm.]
A few years ago someone discovered this photo, taken in Brussels in 1886 by photographer Victor Morin, who took a number of photos of local clergymen.
There's no note on it about who's the subject, but it was taken when Vincent van Gogh would have been 33.
I think it's him. The skull shape and the hair lines are exactly the same.

The man in the photo seems older than 33, but it's certainly an intriguing resemblance.
I almost wrote about that. People in the eighteen hundreds lived several decades shorter lives than we do now, and Vincent was a troubled soul. I think it very likely that he would look fortyish at thirty-three.
Wow, his paintings are very beautiful.

ReplyDeleteSure looks like Vinnie.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to second your comment about aging in the 19th.
Naw, that's what it looks like to be a 33-year-old who's spent the majority of his life exposed to the open air, direct sunlight (no sunscreen!), coal ash, horse manure, and a hundred other irritants, and who didn't get away from that stuff even when riding in vehicles or sleeping in his own bed at night. Plus, this particular individual was a big outdoorsman, relative to some painters his age.
ReplyDeleteHey guys, came across your thread. Sorry to disappoint you ) but I believe that it is not Vincent who is in the photo. I've just made some study of whether this is a photo of Vincent, and when you know the story, it's clear that it is not. I could not find any information regarding Victor Morin's studio in Brussels, but even if he had it, the man is different if we closely compare the details.
