Tarzan
Watching King Kong again in HD splendor, it occurs to me how fantastic they could make it look if somebody made a Tarzan movie now. The fantasy landscapes, the creatures and animals, the heroics, the damsels in distress, the lost civilizations...
When I was a kid, I devoured all the Tarzan book published in Danish (something around 14 of the twenty-odd books, I think). And of course it's basically kids' adventure stories, but they are some of the most seminal adventure stories every written. There's a lot of stuff going on in there.
I don't recall ever watching a whole Tarzan movie, if I did it was when I was a child. And they were probably crap. But I believe they could make a really good one today. It would certainly be a f**k lot better than The Mummy 2! And I think the material is better than, say, Lara Croft Tomb Raider.
Hello, James Cameron? What do you say? Or Peter Jackson?
---
By the way, one of the few things surviving from my childhood is an amazing hard cover "comic book" illustrated by the famous Burne Hogarth, Tarzan of the Apes. Seriously, you have never seen a comic book look like this. I was probably like 12 when I bought this, and I remember my father being disgusted that anybody would throw away that kind of money on a "comic book". (It was probably like $50, adjusted for inflation.)
you obviously don't remember Greystoke? , with Christopher Lambert:
ReplyDeletehttp://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0087365/
I found a radio production of Tarzan adventures, and listening to it, I see there is a lot teasing sexuality in it. I talked to my mother in law about it, and she said the books are the same (She's a Rice Burroughs fan).
ReplyDeleteI then started looking into the films , which I remember filling many a wet weekend day, and realized there is a huge amount of S&M in it, more so than The Avengers. Wasn't there some editorial on Tarzanesque adventures in "The Notorious Betty Page" and also in the new "King Kong".
My dad has also pointed me in the direction of, damn forgot - I think it was Jungle Girl.
If a Jackson style Tarzan hit the silver screen I think I might go to see it.
I did remember Greystoke, but I've never seen it, and from the trailer it's not really the kind of film I think of when I say "Tarzan film".
ReplyDeleteI don't remember any sexuality in the books at all.
ReplyDeleteThen of course I've been a babe in the woods most my life.
Question that has nothing to do with your latest post:
ReplyDeleteWhy are all the girls on Domai Russian? I think this can develop into a grand lengthy thrilling discussion, but a simple answer will suffice. Do you have a fetish for Russian women? Do they just happen to be the most beautiful? Maybe there's an economic factor involved, that this is the only way women can make good money in Russia. Does anybody around here know for sure? Maybe Russia is in deep trouble, and we're just getting all the benefits.
Why are all the girls on Domai Russian?
ReplyDeletei think it's desperation. these girls are beautiful, sexy, etc, but have little hope of ever escaping their misery living in a country that is filled with alcoholics, depression, bad economy, so forth.
the place sucks.
I'm buying from all over the world, recently including the US, Belgium, UK...
ReplyDeleteBut I am getting so many submission from Eastern Europe. I never found out why. If it was just economics, you'd think I'd get equally many submissions from every country in the world where economics is bad.
But they do have a traditional for non-sexual nudes, which can't be said for many countries.
Really? Let's see ...
ReplyDelete"bad economy"
Russia's economy has grown strongly for eight years, and increased by just under 7% in 2006.
I don't know where you come from, Mr. Lemon, but let's compare to the U.S:
US economic growth, in 2006, measured 3.4%, down from 3.5 percent in 2005 and 4.2 percent in 2004.
Last year Russia's trade surplus reached $140 billion.
By comparison, US trade deficit, in 2006, hit a record high of 763.6 billion dollars. Many analysts warn that, because of this, the US economy is now in a real danger of collapsing. It is only because of China and Japan as her money lenders that the country is able to operate at all. And no one knows how long they will continue doing this.
"little hope of ever escaping ..."
There are approx. 1 million Russian immigrants living in U.S. today. So it's not just the Milla Jovovoch and Anna Kournikova who were able to "escape".
Of course, many of those 1 million may soon want to "escape" yet again.
"alcoholics, depression ..."
Do the DOMAI girls look like alcoholics and depressed people to you?
Anyway, this is off-topic for this blog, I invite people to mail me from Domai.
ReplyDeleteI can tell ttl has never been to Russia. As always, he's talking out of his ass.
ReplyDeleteWhen I said sexuality, I did not mean explicit bedroom scenes. Though there are many relationships where a strong sense of sexual tension is shown.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking of some of the stronger Queen/High Priestess characters who want to add Tarzan to their hareem. There is admission of womans sexual drive. There are also slave girls who are submitted to S&M activities, veiled as ceremonies or punishment.

ReplyDeleteActually, I have, once in the 1980s. But the facts I presented above are general knowledge anyone can look up online.
World-Wide-Web = ass? Interesting association.
Do the DOMAI girls look like alcoholics and depressed people to you?
ReplyDeleteAnybody can hide behind a smile and yet be depressed. Many can tint the shade of alcoholism briefly through sobriety. Besides, most of the photos taken were probably done before the money touched their hungry hands. It's sad.
"Besides, most of the photos taken were probably done before the money touched their hungry hands. It's sad."
ReplyDeleteInteresting how you so readily make assumptions about people you've never met. Are these assumptions based on anything?
It is true that anyone can hide behind a smile, but a person can tell if a smile's fake or not if you understand subtle body language(this is something I've studied a bit). The difference with Domai models is that their eyes are smiling. If a person's putting their whole face into a smile, you can be pretty sure they're not faking it. I know "their eyes are smiling" will sound like a bunch spiritual gibberish to some people, but I mean what I'm saying in a literal, anatomical sense.
ReplyDeleteWith Domai, I really get the sense that the models are enjoying themselves as they're being photographed, which is what separates it from every other nude photography website out there for me. So either the smiles are legit, or they're the most convincing lie on the planet. Personally, I find the latter infinetly more far-fetched.
Uh yeah...what's all this got to do with Tarzan again?

ReplyDeleteAs zknalr stated on hir comment above, nothing.

No, actually, *THAT* would be me. Every single time. I have an exclusive on "smart ass" talk, Mister Neemus.
But you're still free to play the Star-Spangled Banner with your natural "wind instrument" if music's your thing. I myself only play the African Elephant's love call that way.
"Go Sheeta, get banana. Hey, monkey! Get funky! Oh-ee-yo-ee-yoh!"
Say, Jane babe, wanna take that skimpy bikini off and pose for my friend Eolake?
(Ooh ya, ooh ya, how's that for back on topic? Yesss! Sssmokin!)
Try a little direct observation, ttl. Not in the 1980s, but now. The numbers say one thing, observation says another. If the majority aren't living in poverty, then they just like slumming it. That's why it's called talking out of your ass. You never have any idea what you're talking about.
ReplyDeleteEh? Whuzzat? Watch your language, young whippersnapper, I knew your parents when they were still in diapers!
ReplyDeleteThe Hanonimus boy, yes, yes, I remember you well. (cough, wheeze) Always stealing apples and passing gas in class to distract your comrades instead of paying attention to your lesson. I already predicted in these days that you'd never amount to anything good. You haven't changed one bit, hiding in the shadows thinking nobody saw you guffawing after your hijinks. Why, if your great-grandmother, a mighty fine woman, bless her soul, could hear about your motormouth shenanigans, she'd hesitate in her coffin between spinning like a top or dancing like a dervish! And what's more, mumble mumble mumble drone blah blah.......
HEY! Where ya goin? I'm not done with you yet. I could still put you over my leg and introduce you to my cane, you know. Youngsters these days, no respect to their elders. A good war, that's what they'd need.
