When I was a kid, my mommy told me I was ahead of the other kids in my class. And I've believed it since, for you should believe what you mama tells you.
But I've just realized that I may be not only behind them, but over thirty years behind! Those guy were into Suzi Quatro back then. I couldn't be having with rock music, it was not until I grew up I started to appreciate it.
Suzi Quatro: Wild One
Suzi Quatro: Wild One, slow version
(I would not have imagined that track would work so well in a slow version. I was actually looking for a harder version than the studio one. I think that song is made for a bone hard version.)
I love her voice, both the one for singing and the very different one for talking both very original and zzzzexy.
She is just so cute.
Funny, she had a bit role on Absolutely Fabulous a few years ago. And even though I hadn't seen any of her for decades and very little before that, something immediately told me, "gee, that's Suzi Quatro."
And they tell me she's back.
"Here I am at 55, standing up and saying, hey, you know what? I can still rock and roll! And I'm gonna shake my ass until there's no more ass to shake."
And she kept her home, health, and money too. Gotta love it.
OMG, how can this be. Just last night I spent about an hour searching for information on Suzy!
ReplyDeleteI've seen her live three times: in 1974, 199? and 200?. The reason for my data mining campaign was my desire to find out the exact dates of those shows. It turns out there's not much information online about her, much less a complete concertography that I was looking for. It seems to me Ms. Quatro is way underrated in general.
For some reason I thought she had moved to Australia. But the article you link to says otherwise.
"It seems to me Ms. Quatro is way underrated in general."
ReplyDeleteWhich is strange, considering she is successful enough to own original Picassos.
I was suprised to read about her affluency. The two last shows I saw from her (in 199? and 200?) were quite low profile: The first one in a nightclub, and the second on a cruise ship, of all places.
ReplyDeleteThe nightclub gig was fanstastically sophisticated, featuring, among other things, a long bass solo from her. She looked, played and sounded spectacular! The gig on the cruise ship some years later was the exact opposite. I felt very bad for her. Lots of drunk people disturbing her performance, etc.
I'm pretty sure her money comes from her record sales on her work in the seventies. Most of her work since, I guess, is maintenance and to keep boredom away.
ReplyDeleteTTL,
ReplyDeleteYou should re-train your reflexes. Don't Google it, Wiki it.
Thanks Pascal, but I have. I even checked some foreign langauge wikis. To no avail.
ReplyDeleteI am looking for a list of every (or even most) concert she has ever given (date, city, country). Nowadays these kinds of lists are available for many artists. Sometimes it is created as a collective effort by the fans.
never heard of her. i'm nearly 50 also.
ReplyDeleteI got the feeling Eolake's inspiration to write such a nice post at his blog came from having viewed Suzi's Wild One slow version I posted at Youtube a few months ago and I gotta tell you all, it has really paid my day! After having read the comments posted here, I'd say it has paid my year!
ReplyDeleteI must admit Suzi was the one who taught me a at least 2 things as boy (I first saw her 48 Crash clip when I was 7 y.o.!): First: I understood what being a man was all about. Second: I was into rock music at once. She means a lot to me! Back in the early 90's I got managed to get in touch with her by calling the owner of a major Suzi's fan club in Germany who would be with her that same week for she had some gigs scheduled in Germany. I asked this girl to tell her I was willing to find a way of bringing her to Brazil for some gigs here. Well, next thing I knew I had a fax in hands sent by herself (I almost freaked out when I realized I had a "faxed autograph" fom Suzi). She was telling me about her willingness to play some gigs here (3 would be the minimum, fees P.A. system and so on). Well, I did try hard. Unfortunately, my efforts were unsuccessfull. About 2 years ago, a friend told me about a "Suzi's rare clips DVD being sold at Ebay Spain. Just didn't think twice...I bought it! That's where the clip for Wild One comes from as well as the other ones I have posted! I knew that posting as many as I could might create sort a possible commotion, but I could never imagine they'd be so welcome to a large number of die hard fans (like myself!). She's been talked about again - the release of the Leather Forever DVD proves it! I did not have any hopes as to this DVD being released in Brazil, but I was wrong! It was and sales of this DVD in Brazil have been quite satisfactory from as far as I can see from major online stores! Maybe it's time for me to give it a second try as to bringing her for some gigs in Brazil! She has a large base of Brazilian fans who would go nuts if they saw her live!
My best regards to all of you, and my special congrats to Eolake for such a great post!
Sergio Machado (Pandabr42 at Youtube)
P.S. When I received her fax, she was livin' part time in England and part time in Germany. She has always been very popular in Germany and Australia despite having started her carreer in England!
"Maybe it's time for me to give it a second try as to bringing her for some gigs in Brazil!"
ReplyDeleteHeck, go for it.
"(I first saw her 48 Crash clip when I was 7 y.o.!)
ReplyDeleteI understood what being a man was all about."
ADVISORY: "this music may cause early puberty in young males. Not for children under 36 months of age."
:-)
Eolake,
ReplyDeleteI tell this: "I WILL definetely give it a second try my friend"!!!
Major attitudes come from a simple encouragement little push! "Heck, go for it" "
Thanks for this litte push!!!
Pascal,
"this music may cause early puberty in young males"
As I read your posting I realize you hit the nail on the head! This music got my testosterone going! And I tell something: The same thing happens at the age of 42! I'd call it a testosterone-shaker song! :)
I heard her say on TV once that there were two kinds of people in the pop business and the other type's dead, and I think that knowledge underpins a lot of the choices she's made.
ReplyDeleteI think she did a New Age-type CD a while back with "Butterfly" in the title. It wouldn't surprise me if she was spiritually inclined, she always seems to have had a kind of presence and solidity about her (I can remember her from back in the "Devil Gate Drive" days).
She had a big gay following at one time too, possibly because of all the leather.
Great to see she's still rocking at 55.
Um... I would be a bit worried if a big gay all in leather was following me. Especially if there is "Butterfly" in his name. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm all for friendliness, but there are limits!
Hiya Eolake...wondering if you can send me that track of Wild One (Slow Version). I used to have it as a kid on a 45 rpm record. I can't get it anywhere :(
