But... I'm really wondering how I could explain to my little nephew that we give him a super-cute chocolate bunny, and then he's supposed to bite and eat it, piece by piece! Guess we'd better stick to chocolate eggs... At least, they don't stare back. :-)
Laurie, I think these are made of french chocolate from a very specific region. But it is a bit complicated to explain:
.There is an French expression that says "Cogner comme un sourd", "to knock/hit as if he were deaf". .A slang word for deaf, often used in this expression, is "sourdingue". (Possibly, "mad-deaf".) .In my mother's native region, you could consider this word to be written "Sourdaing", what the local accent gives from the word "Sourdain". .And "Sourdain" is the name of the inhabitants of a village named "Villedieu-les-Poêles" (Godtown-of-panmakers). This village was always famous for its brass pans, which traditionally were made... by hammering brass! So, "Cogner comme un Sourdain" is also adequate, very likely.
My conclusion : given that these bunnies seem to have some hearing problems, I'm betting their chocolate was made in France, in the village Villedieu-les-Poêles.
Incidentally, my Mom had a schoolmate from another village named Montcuq, which phonetically translates into "my butt". This is all 100% true!
You can understand now how I can be so assertive regarding these two chocolate bunnies...
But any contradicting theories are welcome. Perhaps young Alice simply got a little hungry down the rabbit-hole. (Ouch!)

I think the second rabbit is deaf because it's missing its ears!
