I remember reading Hans Christian Andersen stories when I was very young. I remember very little about them now, except that they tended to be very dark and sad.
Grimm's fairy tales are sometimes sad and brutal, too.
I've just bought a pack of 10 cds with a collection of Anderson's tales, read out in Dutch. Plus Grimm's full version (both on CD and the book). Remember, I'm 55, German, and I still listen to and read fairytales in different languages, my way to learn a language.
Very nice link, thanks! There is at least a couple missing though:
ReplyDeleteFive Peas from a Pod - 1845
and
There is a Difference - 1851

ReplyDeleteIn fact, that was what I loved about them.
I guess I was a strange kid.

That's why I live in a different world! ;-)
Zai jian.
And thanks for the link, Eolake. It's good for me to be able to read the stories in English as well.
