Leica M8 Digital

For advanced amateur photographers, now Leica has finally made a professional digital camera with exchangeable lenses. Is is worth the wait? Well, Reid's reviews has tested it.
The site is a subscription site, but it is worth it in my opinion.

  1. Ah, Leica, the Rolls Royce of cameras. I guess this announcement means that now would be the time to get an M7, the perfection in film cameras?

The M8 looks ultra kewl indeed. At £2990 (body only) it's not exactly in my reach, but maybe one day.

I wonder, though, whether the Kodak KAF-10500 CCD sensor is the final word here. This field of technology continues to be in heavy development. An M9 must be forthcoming sooner than later.

There's a preview at Digital Photography Review.

    Already ordered one, Captain Eo?

  2. I'd love to have it, but my photographic production is not high enough to justify it. Maybe next year.

I think it'll be four or five years before an M9 or seriously updated M8. (Full frame.)
I'd like an autofocus model myself.

  3. ... Leica simple does not have the kind of money to throw into development that Canon or Sony has.
